For those of you with a Korean wife and child?
Could you support them on a PS salary? Like 3 million won a month? I'm assuming the wife definitely has to work. But I guess a major perk would be housing.
I'm thinking about my future plans in Korea, I want to see if it would be better to raise them in Korea or America. |

On 3, single income? Yeah but you won't be saving anything. |

It can be done with less than 3 a month. I have two kids and the wife doesn't work. Our monthly expenses for everything are around 2.5 million. But we don't pay rent.
Wife doesn't have a job. We live off my income. |

Do you also need to work privates too?
I know a PS job can pay up to like 2.8mil, which would give you a lot of time to spend with your kids if they don't go to hagwon either. Which is great I think. |

I have to agree with the above two posters. A lot depends on your spending habbits but I have a family of 4 and we get by on a little less than 3 a month.
But, there are going to be a few shockers in your budget. For example, flying everyone back home can cost a lot! You might find some other start up costs that you might not have thought about such as furniture, baby things etc...
I don't want to upset anyone but I would say you need at least 5 million a month to lead a nice, relaxed middle class life; more would certainly be better. With 5 a month, you can get a few more nice things, travel some and even save. Again, more would be better... |

We also have two kids and spend around 2.5 a month. My wife is studying and works part-time. |

While it is doable to live on 3 mil a month, you aren't going to have much to play with. My expenses are about the same as the others have mentioned. I have a son, wife and dog.
You will just be surviving and not putting much into the rainy day fund.
Those family plane tickets can add up, as well as any vacations. Once baby is around 2, you need to pay for that plane ticket as well. |

Yep, plane tickets are a drag on the finances. This year I'm visiting my folks with my first born only. Next year we'll all go somewhere near Korea. |

around 2.5 a month here as well. we have a 2 1/2 month old child. some months cost more, some less. keep in mind, my school has put us up in a large apartment rent-free as well. they also cover gas, water, etc. |

I don't work privates anymore. I used to but I enjoy spending time with my family now. However, I don't work for a hagwon or a PS.
I do kindy in the morning and I work for a company in the afternoon. I make quite a bit more than 3 million. I live on 3 million a month, save the rest, but I have a large emergency fund.
I don't know how comfortable I would be if a job making 3 million was all I had. You can survive at 3 million but you would not have any money for contingencies. |

Tell me about it. With two kids it can cost over $10,000 for plane tickets, food, entertainment, etc for a trip home. |

I am a single mother and I am pretty amazed that you guys with a spouse and 2 kids manage to spend around 2.5m. My expenses are that much just for the 2 of us!!! Mind you, I am guessing you guys don't spend 1m on your kid's kindie fee plus a nanny. |
