| what a sad day. mckinney is one of the few politicians with a perspective on world issues and the guts to stand up to bush and his cronies. israel is really shooting itself in the foot this time. |

Could you show me where it states that in the article?
The caption states that they were seized [off?] the coast of Gaza which is being patrolled by Israeli warships...in effect an area which is controlled by Israel. |

McKinney is no more bound to Israeli law in international waters 90 miles west of Gaza than American boats 90 miles off the coast of Normandy were subject to Nazi German law in 1944 or Gilad Shalit was subject to Gazan law for being near its border. |
Neither of these examples follows. America and Germany were at war...and Gilad Shalit was on ISRAELI territory, not at sea near Gaza's borders. And anyway Israel controls Gaza's waters making them defacto Israeli territory.
The ship carrying the activists, was given repeated warnings to turn back. It had a history of violating Israel's borders before on more than one occasion and even smuggling out suspected terrorists. They were given chances to turn back and refused. This is what they wanted...to provoke an international incident. |

The Palestinians who captured Shalit don't recognize Israel and the fighting has been going on for decades.

McKinney was captured in international waters. The waters where she was taken prisoner belongs not to the Israelis, the Palestinians, the United States, or anyone else. That's why it's called "international waters."

Again, Israel doesn't control international waters.

Who was the "suspected terrorist"? Was it someone on the FBI's most wanted list or was it someone like me or RufusW who gets sent to secondary security screening every time we fly? Or was it any of the 100,000 fans who get wanded as they enter a football stadium on any given autumn Saturday or Sunday in the the former "home of the brave"?

McKinney giving food, medical supplies, olive trees, cement, and toys isn't provocative. I know most American Christians only want to give bombs and land mines to the whites over there, but McKinney is one of the very few American Christians who actually seems to be making any attempt to obey Jesus and give to the poor. And items of life (food, toys, etc) not instruments of death (the tank that killed Rachel Corrie, cluster bombs, etc) sounds more like what Jesus had in mind when he talked of giving to the poor. What kind of gift is a land mine or cluster bomb? To the wealthy? |

| McKinney is an exteremely brave woman, granted. But I feel she may be a bit anti-semetic (or is that only her dad?) so, i'd say that, since she is not a current congressperson, the journalists stuck up in North Korea deserve more attention. |

I was talking about Gilad Shalit not the boat. Don't chop up my quotes, then you won't get confused.

Apparently the IDF would beg to differ.
"Disregarding all warnings, the boat headed into Gaza coastal waters..."
And the important thing is that the Palestinians get the aid...which the IDF said would be delivered to them. Too bad McKinney didn't get her photo op...but I'm sure there will be another time. |

Well, then you should have started a new thread:
Israel finally does something right!
But seriously, do you really think the Israelis would do anything that might increase the Arab birth rate? |

They were given multiple warnings to turn back. If they didn't wish to be boarded and taken into custody, why didn't they turn back?
They knew what they were getting into, they were told more than once. |
