Seeing as many of you are from Canada, could someone please recommend me a decent ice wine to bring back to Korea? Or is it all the same sh*t? I haven't seen any in Korea or the U.S. for that matter, but I haven't really searched. If it's available here or there, please enlighten me. Thank you!

You can find ice wine in most large airport duty-free shops, usually starting at about USD60 a bottle. Much of it is Canadian; personally, I prefer German-made.

IMHO, the best ice wine is made by the Hafner Winery in Austria.

The reisling ice wine from Summer Hills winery in Kelowna BC is by far the best. I know that some liquor stores carry it. It is a bit pricey though, around $80 a bottle, but it is well worth it!

Sokol Blosser of Oregon makes a nice one. $90 for a half bottle. Yikes, but worth every penny.

I've tried three Canadian Ice Wines, all from somewhere in BC. They all tasted pretty similar to me: Suuuuper sweet. I'm a wine lover but I'm not really a big fan of the Ice Wines. I'm not sure how to recognize a decent one to be quite honest.

If I was buying one I'd just pick whatever is in my price range. The cheapest I've seen is $25 CAN or so.....and that was for a bottle half the size of a normal bottle of wine.

Thank you for your replies, much appreciated. Smile I'm on the east coast so BC's a bit far. I've decided to stop by the Niagara region as Mr. Pink stated and pick some up. I just love drinking them ice cold. Thanks again!

Someone please explain what ice wine is. It sounds like very cold white wine. Am I correct?

Ice wine comes from the fact that the grapes are picked/harvested AFTER the first deep frost and the freeze/thaw cycles. Thus, the sugars of the grape are very concentrated (30 to 50 % depending on the temperature at time of harvest) and the acidity is a bit different.

It's basically a desert wine and is very good if you're into that sort of thing. It's chilled for only an hour or two prior to serving.

I've not really looked too much for any while here but there is a specialty wine shop in Hyundai Department Store at Coex that has some nice stuff .... but expensive.

If they're made from that grape, then yes.

There are many varieties of Gewrztraminer wine, but yes, there is a Gewrztraminer Ice Wine. Typically though, the Gewrztraminer's are late harvest desert and appetizer slightly sweeter whites

Hey, there is no need to travel to the area that the wine is produced in order to buy it. You can get Ice Wine from BC in Nova Scotia.....and Nova Scotian products in B.C.....
