On Sunday, I was eating at my favourite restaurant. I was biting hard on some Chicken and a filling came out from one of my teeth.
The outside of what remains of the tooth is very sharp. Last night, I found out the phone numbers of all dentists in the local area.
I told my co-teacher this morning. I am allowed to go to the dentist after 2pm this afternoon.
They know I'm coming.
The other native at my school was told he must use his paid vacation time to make up for any time used outside school during work hours.
I didn't ask if this would be done to me as well today.
I think it is just posturing. Why? Because the other native, a relative newbie, hasn't been told he can't take the full 2 weeks off school for summer vacation.
In fact, we will both unofficially get an extra week off after summer camp. I've confirmed that with my co-teacher.
I wouldn't care if my school called me on my first day of vacation next week and asked me to come in for 2.5 hours.
But if they are giving us both an extra week off, no questions asked, I'd conclude they were acting tough with the newbie.
I will be glad to see my tooth fixed today. It is awkward when I speak and very sharp.
For the first time, the Principal acknowledged me. Previously, he has kind of ignored me. I nodded his way, he then waved and greeted me by name. |

| A filling in tooth is like a diamond in a ring, it must be forever or for nothing. |

Good to get that taken care of right away, UK. Otherwise the sharp edge will rub against your tongue or inside your cheek and cause a very annoying sore there.
Shouldn't a trip to the dentist get charged to sick leave? |

Good point about the sick leave. I will say that if the issue was raised again, thanks.
I'm also eager to get this done right away, it feels very precarious using my tongue while eating.
I am due to leave at 2pm. I'm looking forward to getting this over with. |

Save your receipt to prove you were at the dentist in case the subject of being charged vacation time comes up again. But like you said... "IF the issue is raised again."
No sense opening that can of worms if they're being benevolent to let you take care of an emergency. Just hush up and don't brag about it. |

Not true...
When a person has a root-canal, filling (and sometimes) a cap placed on top -
every professional dentist will always tell you that it lasts ONLY 5 ~ 8 years..
after which the tooth with suffer problems and pain again - and the cap, filling will have to be removed - and another root-canal performed, before putting a new filling and cap on again.
Remember - it will need to be re-done again and again every 5 ~ 8 years..
(The pain will usually let you know when its time for this to be done)... |

Well, Yesterday, you're about half right. Fillings don't usually last forever. 10-20 years is more like it though. But some can last forever if you stay healthy and keep your teeth perfect from that day on.
And root canals aren't redone unless they weren't done properly the first time. A root canal REMOVES the root, so essentially what you have is a dead tooth there--no pain ever again unless it's a gum absess inside the surrounding area.
Yes, they can still decay, splinter, chip away, and need to be refilled or recapped or eventually removed altogether. |
