Do you think your life is a joke? Or do you think your life has some purpose or greater meaning? |

Joke. By posing this question, you're already half way to the half way house.
Take a look around you, what's going on the world, staunch realities. The answer is right there! |

Not sure "joke" is the right word, but close enough; don't see anything deep about it. Maybe it's time to do something about that if possible, to make it more meaningful. Not sure how. Suggestions are welcome. |

You're being binary.
I'd say both or neither. All the best jokes have some relevance or meaning anyway.
Do I think one should look at life seriously all or even most of the time? No. Do I think there is a God with a grand purpose for humanity/existence? No.
However, just because I don't believe there is some crazy preconceived notion for our existence doesn't mean that it doesn't matter. Do you need someone else, a higher life form or God to tell you that you make other people feel? What's wrong with just having a life, 90 years or whatever, that is just what it is?
Personally, I view life as a chance to experience. Sometimes I even intentionally get the answer wrong so that I can have a different experience. Earth is small. You are small. I am small. It's best to be okay with it and appreciate our fragility. No need to be cynical with the word "joke." But, yes, it's probably best to laugh. |

I think the joke is that while I am working hard at living a life, almost everyone I know back in the West is living a life sentence.
Now THAT is a joke! |

DorkothyParker - If I remember correctly, you are a big fan of science etc. If this is true, based on the simple rudimentary rules of molecular biology, how can you not view the staunch entropy of said category as a joke in relation to the human cerebral cortex and it's infinite possibilities. |

I think if you ask this question maybe you should find one. A life that is. |

The whole world is a bottle and life is but a dram.
When the bottle gets empty,
Lord, it sure ain't worth a damn. |

Interesting OP, opeing the gateway for a common philosophical discussion.
I think the greater question is, do we need a purpose?
If we had a purpose, what would it be?
Can we even imagine a purpose that would mean anything? In the grand scheme of anything in life... esentially nothing matters. To the universe, we make no impact. The greater and greater you think the universe is, the less and less important we think of ourselves.
Life is life, there is no purpose, there is no greater calling. If there is a god, would our actions even matter?
I know this sounds nihilistic and depressing. And actually on a realistic basis this sounds like a excuse for anarchy. But truly, nothing in life matters.
Some say hapiness is our goal, but we can't even define happiness. Most of us don't know what truly makes us happy.
I believe humans are plagued by this question. A lot of human beings need purpose in life. In fact, this very question tore into every being in my motivation for living. Unfortunately I have not found any answers.
Most turn to fatalism to fill the void in their life, but I've accepted a Christian theology to fill my void. |

With all due respect, working in a kindergarten and asking a bunch of 6-year olds "I like pizza. How about you?" for $1600 per month is hardly my definition of 'having a life'. |
