Okay so I never thought I would be creating a post on here, but today is one of those days. I for the most part love being in Korea, and am even considering staying for two years. Today is just one of those rare days where everything here is getting on my nerves. I was told over a month ago I would get money for summer after school classes, now the week before my supervisor says I can't...then school lunch was terrible.....and now my coteacher is screaming at her son in third grade to study harder for final exam( final exams in elementary= insane).
So anyways, what do you do to get through these days when they come along? Any funny anecdotes or links would be appreciated! |

There used to be days when the clock would tick by as slow as the sands of time. However the pie in the sky did not die even if I lied.... so you should meditate and be at peace with the truth that you are not alone in this feeling. We are all interconnected by the vision of neverending tea farms in Kyungsangnamdol. |

I have those days too,
For a while I was really hating my time here. I loved Korea for a good 6 months, and then suddenly month 7 everything crashed.
Now I'm back up. Actually, today I found out my afterschoolpay is being cut... by 70%! But... strangely, it didn't phase me at all. Because I never really depended on that money or expected it. I can see how someone else would be annoyed by it
. But if you don't expect to get anything, then you can't be dissapointed. I have no expectations of who I should be or what I should have. I'm suddenly very zen, and calm about things around me.
It's hard sometimes. Everything can get on your nerves, I know. I just meditate, and let my mind think of nothing but a lake.
Nice calm lake... |

That is dreck. Any other place you'd be told to suck it up and do your job or find another site. "Everybody Hurts...Sometimes....so hoooold ooooonnnn.." was so great when I was ..what, Grade 6? I know some girls even cried to it. |

In most situations, I would agree. However, being a NET in Korea is pretty far from "any other place". |

How do I deal?
After work, treat myself to a great meal with coffee, maybe dessert and then go and down a few beers and smoke some smokes until I'm buzzing...
Sometimes (about once or twice a month) it's the only way to deal with the occaisional motherlode of stress that I get from my job... |

That's how I feel at times. Back home I feel pressure as to who I should be and what I should do and have. In Korea I don't feel like I'm part of Korean society and its expectations, instead I feel like a guest on extended holiday, above the fray. Very zen.
But we all have a bad day, now and then, when things just seem to pile up, one bad thing on top of another. I just think, this too will pass, tomorrow is another day, and just wait for the day to end. The next day is usually better.
I think if ever a dozen or so bad days were strung together I'd have to take a serious look at changing something. But as long as it's just once in a full moon or so, don't sweat it, get through it. The most important thing is to have a good day. If today is a write-off then just wait for tomorrow. Get home and into bed as soon as you can tonight. If you have free time to kill, do some cleaning, it's great for turning negative energy into a clean place: take that bacterial scum! |

I alternate between meditating and hardcore alcohol consumption. Both are recommendable. |

Only meditation is recommendable there my pupil. Alcohol is the path of self destruction and will lead to your demise like it has for so many others. It's the elixer of the wicked and the need of the weak.
Enlighten your mind and the world will be yours. Kumbahyah is truly an art. |

What you need to do is find your Secret Happy Place.
No kidding! My place is on my sofa watching the tube. I have Qoon tv with the Mega package. I have movies and mini-series with a click of a button--all for under 15 bucks a month. That includes FOX and CNN.
The tube might not be your Secret Happy Place. But there is something out there that will float your boat.
Also, don't take this job too seriously. Do what you can and get your money. I wouldn't lose sleep over a bunch of 3rd graders. |

Violence is never the key to any solution. It is akin to those who know their destiny and chose to ignore it. |

OP, I'm easily having the worst day today than I have had in the past year.
What do I do? Remember that where there are highs, there are lows, and today is it. It will turn around, no doubt about it.
Right? |

take a small trip out of your usual surroundings, preferably somewhere quiet where you can just think. it helps me out. its remarkable what 1 day or even half a day can do to you. |

Happy Gilmore?
Mines is similar to my avatar, I imagine a single solitary sakura tree, on top of a vast steep mountain. I'm under it looking out into the horizon, right above the clouds. The mountains are misty and crisp. The air is sweet and soft and breathing in is like drinking a cool glass of water and floods my insides.
I look out and a simple cheerful melody plays and I jump off and gliding into the horizon with the vibrant cherry blossom petals enveloping me keeping me afloat.
I fly all over the world smiling and waving to every local below, all 3rd world countries, happy people... and finally land on the sweet beaches of Hawaii, crack a coconut, and sip my way into the bliss of the cascading orange glow of the sun...
Should beer and hotties in lingere been the more appropriate response? |
