|
|
I know that my friends who work at a Hagwon have don't have school from October 1st - 5th because there's a holiday. (Thursday-Monday)
I'm about to start working for SMOE, I want to plan ahead for this holiday before flights are sold out, and my recruiter (its late to change, sigh) isn't very helpful. Does anybody know which days public schools have off for the October holiday? |

It's Chuseok. You will probably have the same days off. I think GEPIK teachers do but not sure about SMOE. |

Look at a calendar. If the day is red, it's a national holiday and you should not be working. If your school says otherwise, then there something fishy brewing. |

Only the day of and the days before and after are guaranteed off. With Chuseok falling on a saturday this only gives you friday off for sure.
That is all GEPIK gets after looking closer |

On my schedule it has Friday as a red day and Monday as a blue day (school holiday), so 4 day weekend and 4 days of exams before that. |

Chances are your school will stretch it to 4 or 5 days (K-teachers like their breaks too) but I doubt your school will know if & which days exactly that would happen till maybe in september sometime. Booking a flight now would be very risky.
I also think we're going to see increasing fallout from swine flu quarantine directives come fall (flu season). Not sure how thats going to play out. |

Thanks for the input. I don't have a school calender yet, so I can't see what are red and blue days, I was just hoping that there was a universal period off for SMOE. But it looks like it's too risky to book tickets yet, so thank you for your help. |

Schwa, most (all?) schools have an annual schedule out in February. I have Thursday (1st) and Monday (5th) off in addition to the Red days. I had this information in March.
To the OP. Each school has a different policy regarding those "extra" days. So even if your school is closed for those days, you may have to come in (as they aren't public holidays). Booking a flight now, before you've even started the job, is very risky. |

Well aware that each school publishes a schedule at the beginning of the school year & equally aware that it is subject to change, especially concerning arbitrary schooldays off surrounding national holidays. The school calendar is not meant to be taken as carved in stone, just as a general guideline. |
