I have a recruiter wanting to put me with CDI Daejeon. I've done all the reading on here about CDI in general-- so I've seen all the good and bad about them.

My question is whether or not anyone knows anything about this particular school. Working conditions? Other Staff? Reliability of pay? etc....

Daejeon is a pretty cool town, I can tell you that much. I went hiking just outside of there and I was impressed. No idea about that specific CDI. I hear they're hit or miss. Don't they have cameras in the classroom? Some friends of mine were working for them in Seoul and didn't like it, but CDI actually transfered them to a city on the east coast and they're much happier now.

Cool... thanks for the info... Glad to hear it's a good town

This particular CDI is supposed to have about a dozen western teachers there, so...

CDI Daejeon is one of the best and most successful branches out side of the "main" branches in Seoul. The staff and the teachers are pretty tight knit group. They look out for the success of the teachers as well as the branch. The owners and the managing staffs believe the success of a teachers in CDI and the success of the branch go hand in hand. Also, the renewing of the contract of the returning teachers have been one of the highest out of all CDI branches.

You will enjoy teaching in Daejeon if you are serious about teaching. However, if you are looking for a partying big city lifestyle, Daejeon probably wouldn't be your best fit.

FYI... the CDI Daejeon is a pretty big branch. They have around 30 native teachers in 2 daejeon branches (both owned by the same people).

Daejeon has its own metro system. Any Korean city that can boast that is going to have something going on. It is definitely what you make of it, but I can guarantee you that if you have 30 foreign co-workers you will make some friends and go from there. In addition to CDI there are many other hagwons, (more people who speak your language to meet), and a university that has quite a few students from Europe. You'll be in good shape b/c you won't have to spend all your time on ESL Cafe trying to figure out what to do in your town. You co-workers will give you the rundown when you get there. Enjoy!
