How far along are you in the application process for SMOE?
I will be sending in my second set of documents soon and hopefully get my notice of appointment. I'm nervous though. What if I get everything ready and I don't actually get a job? |

I just had my interview with SMOE a few days ago and am waiting to hear back from my recruiter as to whether or not I got the gig. Two things I'm not wild about:
1) I don't know where I'll be living until after orientation
2) I don't know where or what level I'll be teaching until after orientation
I figure even if I don't get the position, other schools I apply to will want to see my background check and i'll have to get a visa anyway so that will just make me that much more prepared if I have to go to plan B. |

Dont worry, guys. SMOE are finding it increasingly difficult to fill their placements, so I have absolutely no doubt youll be hired! Words finally got around that the public schools arent quite the holiday camp theyre made out to be, and a lot of SMOE teachers are returning to the private sector. Just chill and prepare yourselves for a messed-up, crazy, infuriating and wonderful trip on the dysfunctional ol SMOE train |

Yeah, christ. It's gotten a lot more expensive to apply for jobs in Korea now too. All the notaries/ background checks/ apostilles nickel and dimed me to death. Then if I end up going, I get to pay for a medical check up.
It used to be you just paid the visa fee, and that was that. |

I didn't mean finding another job in Korea...I was talking about finding a job here in the States.
Nevertheless, I was notified that my NOA and official contract was on its way to my house as we speak. I guess I'll be seeing some of you in Korea after all.
Good luck to all those who are still waiting. See you at the Orientation! |

Says who? Many people resigned and there's always an overflow of new applications. Especially given this economy. |

Yeah, I meant the same thing you did. Looking for a job "in" Korea while living in the States. It's a lot more expensive and time consuming than it used to be. |

LOL... Don't worry guys and gals, it's just as frustrating to work with SMOE if you're actually here ;D
Just got my new contract today... Was told I had to sign it ASAP, as well as get my medical check done today (no advance warning) because contracts are due back at SMOE HQ this Friday or something... (Have friends who have said their schools are saying the same...)
On top of that, I then have to wait for SMOE to send back my contract (stamped by them) as well as a letter of sponsorship so I can rush to immigration to have my visa extended another year... All before I leave for home on the 16th of August...
Welcome to SMOE - We wish were as organized as that comic book convention you went to last year! |

Why does the school require for you to take another medical examination if you're going to stay at the same school? Or is it for immi purposes? |

Usually your recruiter lets you know when the NOA is coming and it's usually by email. So get at your recruiter and stick it to them and they will spill something out. |
