I updated to Safari 4 browser last week. I have used Safari 3 for a long time with no problems. I spent hours trying to fix my problems with Safari 4 before finally just switching over to firefox. It has been great so far, except now when I type emails in Yahoo, it tends to type EXTREMELY slow (to the point where it is not usable). Is this a Yahoo or Firefox thing? anyone know of any solutions? I am getting real fed up with these browser issues, and just want something that does not cause problems since I need to be online for the whole day. any help for the yahoo mail thing would be appreciated since I don't mind sticking with firefox now that i see how awesome it is.

Second, I got the new Macbook around December when it did not come with firewire port. At that time I was not working with video but now I am. I have been looking for a new camera that can 1) transfer files vis usb; and 2) use the camera as a webcam via usb to do high quality screen casts. i wanted to get the Canon HV20 but it only has firewire. All of the AVCHD camera I found do not allow the camera to be used as a webcam. Any suggestions on cameras/models I could use or how to get around the firewire problem (besides using another computer)?

Thanks!!!

I agree that Mozilla Firefox is the best choice for a browser at this point, although Safari ain't half bad.

I just Yahoo tested my three year old Mac running 10.5.7 with Firefox 3.5. Make sure your system is up to date.

Also try and clearing all your cookies and resting your computer. If all this fails then try a different mail service, like gmail and have your old address forwarded to that. Gmail is about the lightest and most efficient e-mail service that I know of, really fast.

About your camera, is it possible just to use the built in cam. The resolution is surprisingly high and looks great for the web. Other wise you are correct that it will be difficult to do with out firewire. Does your model have an expansion card slot? If so you can buy a firewire adapter for that. If not, I'm sure there must be some type of camera that can be fixed via USB.

thanks for the info. any mac users have any answers out there as far as browsers? I am an extremely busy person and use the internet at least eight hours per day for research. I have used Safari for over two years now with no problems until Safari 4 came out. I spent two to three days to try to fix problems I was having with Safari 4 (crashing constantly, loading pages EXTREMELY slow). I never once had a problem with the older version of Safari (by the way, I have the new Macbook).

So I switched over to Firefox finally after wasting WAY too much time to get Safari to work. However, I use evernote everyday and it makes Firefox crash nearly every time I clip something. I have again spent hours trying to sole this problem to only have the program crash again and again.

My bottom line is this: I just need a browser that is fast and works. I don't have hours and hours to read forums to see what may be the problem. Every hour I waste trying to solve a computer problem is an hour of lost earnings.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me if there is a browser out there that is free of these bugs? I am seriously starting to regret switching over to Mac a few years ago (not that Vista is not a nightmare as well). I just need something that works and doesn't require hours of my personal time to experiment and see if there is a possible file that is corrupt in my library, only to find out that the problem doesn't go away. Sorry to rant about this, but this has been extremely frustrating and makes me question why I spent $2000 on this machine.

Try posting in another forum that might be more help as well. Such as http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/ or another one, there are lots of help online for Macs.

I imagine there is another underlying problem rather than just the browsers. As I've never had a problem with safari or firefox crashing on me and your hardware is far superior than mine.

Hi johnriley007. It's a shame you upgraded to version 4 because it's known to run much slower than version 3 and you won't reap the full speed/stability benefits until Snow Leopard comes out in September. It's not possible to downgrade unless you have a Time Machine backup, or alternatively, if you know someone else with a Mac still running version 3 you can copy their one across to yours. Firefox has no issues - as far as I can see - with Yahoo. You may want to try creating a new test user account on your Mac, login as that user and see how it runs within there. swigs is right, try clearing ALL private data (Tools > Clear Private Data...) in Firefox. And if all else fails you could try using Opera as blackjack suggests. Personally I don't like it but I know others who rate it over F/Fox and Safari. And please don't ditch the Mac just because of Safari 4's issues. When Snow Leopard comes out it will blow F/Fox and even version 3 away. Trust me, I have a 13" MacBook Pro running a test version of Snow Leopard and Safari 4 and it's amazingly fast (and stable too). Good luck.

here is the opera 10 beta 2 http://download.cnet.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-10764632.html

has things like inline spell check, turbo for slow internet connections, etc

here is the 9.64

http://download.cnet.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-10527779.html

A few things first.

If you torrent you will have to change the default setting (opera has a torrent client built in.

If you have a stand alone RSS or email client you will have to change the default setting, both of these are built in.

Personally I use the opera rss but stuck to outlook and utorrent for email and torrents.

I recommend the beta 2 with a big caveat I have only used the windows version

improvements
-better speed dial
-picture in the back of speed dial
-inline spell check (possible with old versions but had to play around)
-better interface (I still use an old 9... skin but there are a few more things I can do such as drag sites from the addressbar down to the progress bar and save it as a quick bookmark with easy access
-being able to view tabs as thumbnails

These (with the exception of the last) plus the password manager, image blocker, RSS, stability, speed of opening and ability to open 50+ tabs without using insane amounts of ram make opera my browser of choice. It always takes people an hour or two to get used to the differences but after that I don't know anyone that has gone back

I like firefox and the current firefox doesn't have the same bugs that were out about 3 updates ago.

Safari has another update, are you using 4.03 (think that is their latest)? I don't really like Safari, but I found it worked alright. It just takes too much resources on my macbook to run both firefox and safari. I like to have 15 tabs or so going on firefox, so that means lots of resources.

I've been a Firefox user since day one, and other than stability issues when having a TON of tabs open (like 20+), i've never had issues with it. It's still the best and fastest browser around.
