I'm trapped in my apartment, incarcerated more like it, by bars of water in the form of rain. I can barely hear the volume off my computer with all the intense pounding of rain drops outside. So I stepped out for a smoke and came to realize that Koreans are mistaken when some boast of Korea and it's four distinct seasons.

With this amount of rain "Monsoon Season" deserves the respect of being named an entirely different season.

So, from now on, I will brag to all with an ear that Korea has 5 SEASONS.

Now since it's a kind of custom here when it rains, I'm off to eat pacheon and drink dongdongju. Cheers!

Four seasons my butt.

A winter without snow? Yellow smog in place of fresh spring air? A summer so humid that people dread its arrival and long for its end?

The only real season Korea has is their lovely autumn.

Korea has six (6) distinct seasons

since

the Monsoon season has a clear start and end, from mid-June to mid-July

the last week of July and first week of August is the only time that normal summer weather is guaranteed (hence why major companies give one-week vacations at that time)

the Typhoon season has a clear start and end, from mid-August to mid-September

any attempt to refer to summer here as one season obscures more than it illuminates

There usually isn't a spring. Let's "X" that one out.
