Alright, it doesn't seem like there are any boxing gyms directly in Itaewon but there are some in Yongsan Gu. This one seems like a good bet because its actually run by a former WBC Champ. It looks like the closest gym to Itaewon.
Here's a link to the site (with a map)

There are no Muay Thai or kickboxing gyms in the yongsan area, much less Itaewon. There are a few near Hongdae and Shinchon if you're willing to travel. I go to a boxing gym in Hongdae and I know of both MT boxing gyms near Shinchon. |

thanks for the help. i knew there weren't many in the area but was just hoping someone might be able to come up with something, which you did. much appreciated. i'll check out the gym you found and might also hit up mapo lion in sinchon if i can work out the logistics. have heard they have some good muay thai there and i'd prefer to get back into that instead of starting to learn boxing at this point. |

Fermentation,
You wrote that you go to a boxing gym in HongDae... can you add location info or website? Are you still going, is it a good place?
I'm living by HapJeong and have always wanted to take up the sport.
Thank alot! |

Here's a website but in Korean.

The owner/trainer doesn't speak much English but there are some English speakers there including me. Right now, I'm resting due to injuries, but if you need me I can be there to translate for the first meet since I live pretty close to the gym. I guess I might as well show you where it is, but in case you want to go by yourself, you have to get out of exit 5 of Hongdae Station, go to the main street (the one heading to the Hongik Univ main gate) and turn into the first alley way on the right. It's Daesung Boxing Gym (대성 권투 제육관). On the 5th floor.
The gym is small and the facilities aren't the newest but its decent. Old, run-down boxing gyms are better anyway. If a gym is really new and clean, it generally means its attracting the weekend warrior, boxercise types. As far as training goes, it's a legit gym with actual fighters. I fought in an amateur tournament earlier this year and there are a few active professional fighters. Two WBO Asia Pacific champs sparred at our gym few months ago. One of them was Big Yoo, who is an amazingly talented young Japanese fighter (most people think a guy with this talent is almost guaranteed to become a world champ). The other guy was Korean whose name I can't remember. Those two were probably the best boxers to ever step in our gym and it was amazing to behold. |

Does this boxing gym offer Muay Thai by any chance?
I'm searching for a good Muay Thai gym near Hapjeong, Hongdae, Dangsan, or even Yeouido station. |

I've heard that there's a place called Mapo Lion Boxing that does Muay Thai. It's located in the Sinchon area, and there's some info about it on this page: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=1709747 . The instruction sounds a bit hands-off, however, so the gym fermantation mentioned might be better. Just wanted to throw a little more information out there... |
