She hates the Japanese. She's not crazy about America. She gets angry when I talk about dog soup.
But I like her. Her English is great, and she's fun to talk to.
I really lucked out. I hear so many horror stories about co-teachers. I might have the best co-teacher in all of Korea. |

I really did. I just thank the stars.
And it's not just because her English is great. She's just a really nice person on top of it. |

She hates dogs, too, except for those hyper little noisy ones that she'd love to paint pink and attach little booties and a golden ribbon to - those mutts I'd just love to hurl down the elevator shaft of my building. |

Are you suggesting that KOreans are not still sore with Japan over the control they stole form Koreans in the past?
Are yu suggesting that many Americans were not upset against the muslim population in general for the 9/11 bombings?
Perhaps your calendar IS quite wrong if you are not aware that these prejudices are a very real part of our world even if they should not be. |

Why is the co-teacher letting it be known her personal negative impressions of other cultures and nationalities -or is this OP's opinion?
I personally wouldn't discuss any of these kinds of topics at work, it's simply unprofessional and leads to strife.
I've had a few of my own students give me the 'I hate the Japanese' comments and I simply ignore it and chalk it up to the education system.
I can understand how older generations may feel about the Japanese, and rightfully so, but when I have 18-19 year olds with a 'hatred- hard-on' that have been generations removed from Japanese occupation, you've really got to wonder sometimes ...
It's similar to the older generations having a disliking for the Germans as they were directly involved in the war or the after-math, but you rarely hear of younger generations far-removed to have a major disliking or hatred for the Germans like you witness over here for the Japanese.
Hopefully, in the near future some sort of reconciliation can actually be achieved and the younger ones are not force-fed to stand the picket lines and continue the 'calling.' |
