Hi all-

I'm coming to Seoul on Sept. 1st. I won't be teaching, but studying at a language institute. Who is being quarantined these days? Just teachers, or anyone coming into Korea from abroad? Being quarantined when I need to take a placement test and get set up in an apartment would be a real pain. I know September's a ways away, but am curious what the state of things is now.

Anyone coming from abroad. I'm going in August to study at a uni myself, actually.

You won't get quarantined, but you'll go through various temperature readings for a week probably. I think it depends on the school though. Ours seems to really want to crack down on it.

EDIT: You won't get quarantined unless you are suspected for having the virus.

I just flew in last week off of vacation.

What will happen is you will have your temperature checked by some people in white coats and masks after you de-plane. They use a digital thermometer, and it takes all of 2 seconds. You must hand them a card you fill out on the plane stating your address/contact info.

If you are not sick/show fever, then you can pass.

I actually received a call 2 days later inquiring as to my health. I think it's a random thing, because my friend wasn't called. I told them I was OK, but a bit overweight, and he laughed. He left me a number to call in case I became sick within the 7 day window: 02-352-1679.

That's it... oh, and my friend was told not to come to classes for a week, as the parents were concerned about swine flu.

Wash your hands often. Don't touch railings/desks etc unless you have to. Keep your hands away from your face (nose, eyes, mouth mostly). Keep your face away from others (don't bend down close to them to listen for example).

That being said you'd almost be better off catching this flu. Odds are pretty good, unless you're old, that it won't kill you and catching it allows your body to build an immunity to it. This flu may come back later in a stronger form, yet your immunity could still help. Myself I'm not exactly looking for it, but I won't be too upset if I catch it (minus the having to take time off from work).
