It has to be obvious or the sarcasm doesn't work right, and you end up being just a stupid jerk. I was actually really excited for a few minutes... and this does not happen to me very often in Korea. |
Not obvious enough? Hahah.
Even in a major North American city Sonic Youth and Griz Bear togther would be epic.
You've been in Korea long enough to know this bill would never happen here. |

^^^ Actually, for a moment I thought there had been some massive social changes in my sleep (unlikely), or perhaps that this sort of thing goes on more often than I suspect and for reasons unknown I had remained oblivious (getting warmer), or that someone somewhere had decided that Seoul was worth a stopover for, and convinced others (it could happen).
But yeah, I don't think I could picture anyone who was born in Korea listening to and enjoying any of those bands. I admit I tend not to actively seek out Korean music, but it seems to consist mostly of pop, pop, pop, adult contemporary and pop.
And I would have settled for a short Circulatory System set followed by an encore with Jeff Magnum, where they did a psychedelic version of 'Engine', and the end of it breaking into a group chorus. |

Electronica

Oh man....you listen to any throat singing and drink any Romanian? I only listen to br mongγol and drink espresso from Teleorman beans that were hand-picked before 10:00a.m. Did you grow up under a rock or what? |
Whatever, that's so two days ago. Now, I only drink the sunlight and all music is dead. |

I thought it was obvious. Everyone knows Feist hates Korea. |

Artsy people are all right. I prefer the laid-back personalities of artsy, indy, hippy types. But I've noticed this with a lot of the people: the more artsy someone looks, the less artistic talent they tend to have. Some of the most amazing artists I've met looked like normal, everyday people. |

I think saying that "I only want to hang out with people of x group," is stupid. I say this because I grew up in a small town that was/is (I don't know anymore) very cliquey, and I missed out on getting to know a lot of people because we just hung out in our cliques growing up. I will say that there are certain kinds of people that I tend to become good friends with. However, I don't consciously limit myself to one particular group anymore. Why limit your experiences? Keep an open mind, and you could have more fun! |

mostly because I saw MSTRKRFT and A trak live two weeks ago and jizzed my pants with the awesomeness.
I don't look like a textbook hipster but I hang out in alot of hipster areas and I went to art school. fair enough.
if you cant pm just email me: shortydotnet (at) gmail (dot) com
then you can be my facebook friend and judge me on my music tastes |

This entire thread reminds me of the conversation marge and homer had with part and lisa after LULLAPOLOZA.
Homer: So I realized that being with my family is more important
than being cool.
Bart: Dad, what you just said was powerfully uncool.
Homer: You know what the song says: "It's hip to be square."
Lisa: That song is so lame.
Homer: So lame that it's... cool?
Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Am I cool, kids?
Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me coolnot caring, right?
Bart and Lisa: No.
Marge: Well, how the hell do you be cool? I feel like we've tried everything here.
Homer: Wait, Marge. Maybe if you're truly cool, you don't need to be told you're cool.
Bart: Well, sure you do.
Lisa: How else would you know? |

I don't usually permit myself to expess who I am in public, but I am one who would probably not be classified as mainstream. However if you're in interested in the path to true height of the Himalayas, I can provide part of the key. |

since MSTRKRFT was brought up, is there a venue in Seoul where one can scratch their electrohouse or electroclash itches? |

Will Korean hiphop be an OK substitute? |

Club Answer (in Chungdamdong) has hosted the acts of such famous DJs like Justice, Hedkandi, LCD Soundsystem, etc. etc. etc. and also pretty good regular electro/house/assorted other electronica. Club Mass was another great electro venue, but don't know how popular they are now due to the high turnover rate of businesses in Seoul.
(They also had the Lady Gaga show there, too, I think, but no one wants her name mentioned in this thread.)
The only problem with Answer is the cover fee, which is W30,000, unless you can pal it up with one of the main managers, who loves foreigners/non-Koreans. |
