'Dynamic Korea' slogan to be pulled
By Song Sang-ho, The Korea Herald (July 16, 2009)
http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/NEWKHSITE/data/html_dir/2009/07/16/200907160035.asp
Quote:
The chief of a presidential panel on enhancing the national image proposed yesterday the national slogans, "Dynamic Korea" and "Korea Sparkling," be replaced by something more symbolic of the nation's "miraculous" technological advancement....

He said "Miraculous Korea" could be one of the suggestions to replace Dynamic Korea.

With all these slogan changes going on, maybe the new slogan should be:
Indecisive Korea, Hub of ever changing slogans.

Seriously, this is the worst slogan of the lot.

When I come to "Miraculous" Korea, I expect to see Moses parting the Han river, Lee Myung Bak healing the sick and blind with his touch...

Admittadly, a pretty good job was done parting the Korean penninsula..

I have to admit, it's a really cheesy name. A bit like the 'Freedom Tower' in NYC.

On a USO tour to entertain the troops during the Korean war, my father told me the comedian Bob Hope stood on stage, and after sniffing the air announced, "I know it's shiiit, but what did they do to it?"

Sometimes, I find myself walking around the neighborhood and saying the same thing after catching a whiff of sewage.

I think Bob's obervation is still valid after over half a century!

Korea, I know it's shiiit, but what did they do to it?

If it's an English slogan I would prefer it authentically reflect the natives' own peculiar and endearing use of the language. A few possibilities culled from my wife's repertoire:

Korea: Monkey Jelly Hit Your Butt!

Korea: 7-3 Crackers Crazy-Nuts!

Korea: Super Busy Country in the World!

Korea: We Give Up

Seriously...they couldn't even keep the "Soul of Asia" brand going for a year before they dropped the "Infinitely Yours" campaign. Horrible, horrible brand management.
