Hey there,
I was wanting to gather your opinions on this option. I've been thinking about getting my TEFL certification through Oxford Seminars. It is an in-class option, 60 hours and is $1,095. I have browsed through here and I know it is not necessary to get certified, but I feel it would help me and make my experience a lot better (and more importantly, the kids). Does this sound unreasonable or like a pretty solid idea? I appreciate any feedback. |

Listen:
Don't do it.
I did it. I didn't know any better then. It's a complete waste of money and time. Because it's less than 100 hours classtime it doesn't help you on the pay scale in Korea. For example, had I done a 100 hour course I would have been up a level on the payscale and would have been making a bit more money. The Oxford course is totally useless. It doesn't qualify you to teach ESL in other countries that require TEFL certification. Also, they will promise you a job and will place you in a hagwon when you complete the course. Hugest racket ever.
Do a CELTA course with at least 100 hours of classtime if anything. It might be a bit more expensive but it's better than paying a grand for basically nothing.
Oxford Seminars: just don't. |

Got my TEFL from ITTT and it was a 100 hr online course that cost less than $200 US. I heard Oxford was a complete waste of money and a rip-off. |

Thank you jenesis! That's what I was worried about. SFValley, did your TEFL certification through ITTT qualify you for a higher pay scale? Did it help prepare you for teaching? Thanks so much for your information. |
