|
|
I've been asked to sing a song with the students at our schools speech contest. I've never used a song in the classroom before and I'm apprehensive about doing it because:
a. I can't sing.
b. I've never taught a song before.
c. I'll be teaching it in front of the whole school.
Does anybody have any tips or advice? |

Does anybody have a suggestion for a catchy, fun, simple song to use with lower to higher elementary classes?
The YMCA seems like a good one, though I think they already know that one. |

Check my youtube page. The songs are all geared towards elementary students, but they might not be exactly what you're looking for. Still, give it a try. |

This ought to go down a treat.
It's simple, plus you don't really need a great singing voice to pull it off. |

Karea, that's not funny. I like his music but he is a convicted sex offender.
tfunk, if you've seen the movie "Musicman", one can believe that a no-talented person can lead a band with some help from friends. Get a K-teacher who knows music. There's bound to be one. If not just play the song and teach the words, the students will do the rest. When parents see their children on stage, they won't be seeing a glee club but the Vienna Boys choir. Parents are silly in that way. As for the song, go with YMCA, they already know it. |

Don't worry if you can't sing. You just have to look and sound enthusiastic. Don't even worry about the guy videotaping you for the school website or the kids taping you on their phonecams for their Cyworld pages. They'll just think it's funny if it sounds bad, and not wonder why that guy who can't sing is making such a fool out of himself. |

Thanks people for the tips. andrewchon, I'll be checking out that site soon, it looks great. I'd use your videos but I'm looking for MP3s as I don't have a computer to use.
I'm expected to teach them the song on the spot, no preparation with the kids, so I guess I'll just run with the YMCA because it's fun and everybody can spell YNBA... |
