Of being blown up by North Korea? This is a serious question. The perception of that side of the world over here in the states is pretty bad. One of my coworkers told me last week I was crazy for moving to Asia right now, especially South Korea. So I was thinking about Thailand as I lost my job offer in Changwon because my wife changed her mind about where she wanted to live. But now, I have decided to pay off my university private loan ($1,600) and get a job with an E2 visa in Korea so I won't have to rely on my wife.

Anyways, a lot of people here think North Korea will do something soon. That's why I want to live in the southern hemisphere of Korea and probably Jeju-Do.

I'm apparently not as scared as I should be since I'm still coming over. My coworkers are more nervous for me that I am for myself.

Right now, it's mixed where I am. Some people think they'll try something soon. Others think they'll be crumbling upon themselves around this time.

The same people who think NK is going to do something are the same people who warned me about Y2K.

Be worried about a taxi driver.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume they're also the same people warning us about 12/21/2012?

The key point is that NK could collapse, blow something up, start a war, at any time. They only need to be that 0.01% chance when you're here.

No. Unless the NK leadership has a deathwish, I highly doubt it will happen.

No one disputes this. Yet flying also has risks (there seem to have been more plane crashes this year, no?). Driving has risks, taking the bus has risks.

In my lifetime (born after the Korean war...), how many times has NK attacked SK? Zero. How many car accidents have their been? How many plane crashes? How many terrorist attacks? How many people have choked on French Fries?

So while there may be a risk, I'd say the risk of getting taken out by NK, is a lot smaller than countless other things which we do on a daily, monthly or yearly basis.

I'm more worried about sasquatches, alien abductions, and some random whitey staring me down on the subway.

No full out invasions, but there was some spy infiltration, tunnels, and skmirshes along the border and at sea. Of course the kill ratio in these skirmishes is overwhelmingly in S. Korea's favor.
