Let me explain...

The co-supervisor (I guess that's her title) decided she was going to quit after 6 years at my school. Her last day was July 10th. The school brought in a new co-supervisor who started automatically changing things, such as moving us from a spacious office into an office about half the size with twice the amount of teachers and desks (we have a math hagwon also). She also tried to separate all of the Korean teachers and did separate the NETs.

This past Monday I learned that another one of the Korean teachers, the one that the NETs were closest to, is leaving at the end of August. That day, another Korean teacher who had broken a few vertebrae a few weeks before decided she didn't want to work there anymore. Then we show up Tuesday and another one of the Korean teachers isn't there. We find out yesterday that she quit and one quit yesterday and another one is quitting today. That would leave only 2 Korean teachers from the original 8 that were there when I started. I feel like they will soon quit.

I actually felt this coming for some time because I'm the closest of the NETs to the Korean teachers (+50 WAP)

Have you ever seen anything like this?

Guess so. And my contract isn't up until late January. I could always skip out and try to land one of those public school gigs. Who knows

Product of Confucianism. They're not allowed to countermand their superior, even if their superior is a raving nut job, so they quit. A Korean co-worker of mine was talking about this same thing yesterday.

I'm just pissed that the WAP I worked so hard to earn is going to be taken away when all of the teachers leave

Just go sit in one of their chairs.
Its a war of attrition and your next in line.

You should get ready to find a new job. I've found that in these situations, Koreans would rather toss the baby with the bath-water than find out who the bad apple actually is.

Happened at my old hagwon before. A mass defection and the head TOEFL teacher started his own hagwon opposite ours. Started stealing staff and clients. He really hit wonjangnim where it hurts. Reputation and wallet.

Since that happened then it was a revolving door of teachers coming and going.

You don't happen to work for Myeong-Seong, do you? With a little Italian feller who has recently gotten an accidental haircut?

The Italian feller said he told the stylist to stop but she kept going shorter. I guess they figured he was me since there's not many waegookin around these parts. They don't go short enough in Korea for my liking.

I hate those Korean WOMEN! TOTAL ModEdit!!

wait 6-8 weeks, she will be onto you...
you will find yourself with a whole new work load! and other duties!

I've seen this from both sides. It could also be a way for them to clean house and start fresh. Easier to let people quit rather than fire them. Perhaps management didn't see much progress with the current staff and is looking for some rehaul.

I taught adult students in Korea (Seoul) and various parts of China. They were always talking about quitting their job, especially Koreans in their 20s and 30s. I think it's much more common than we FTs realize.

New woman boss? It is perfectly normal for everyone to quit.
