Don't get too excited fromtheuk. Treadmills are notorious for being inaccurate when it comes to calories burnt. A man of your size, I'm guessing about 160lbs, would burn about 85 calories a mile if you are walking at 3 miles per hour. So it is more likely you burnt about 255 calories. http://walking.about.com/cs/howtoloseweight/a/howcalburn.htm
Thats about 2 cups of milk. Good job. |

Calories burned as displayed on a treadmill may or may not be totally accurate. But when I used to go for a walk outside, I would periodically stop to wait for the traffic lights to go green, wait for other people in the way etc.
However, this workout was non-stop. I was dripping sweat like never before.
I walked mostly at a 4.5 speed. I would never maintain that throughout my walks outside, for an entire hour.
There are lots of conflicting info on this topic online. I've just read most people use up 1200-1600 calories just being alive each day.
My daily intake is around 1200-1300 calories, so even if you were right in your 255 calories estimation, I would still lose weight.
I would say before June, I used to eat around 2000 calories, so I think it will take some time to shift the stomach, if possible, because it has been this shape for many years.
The point I'm making is this exercise is more intense compared with when I walk outside. I have already lost a pretty noticeable amount of weight, the question is can I reach my 'slim all over including the stomach' by sticking to my new regime over a consistent period of time?!!
To reiterate, over the last 6 weeks I have gone from eating regular cookies, semi-skimmed milk, chocolate, margarine, sugar, regular bread/rice to total elimination of these items. That coupled with extra exercise has been responsible for the weight I've already lost.
I've not bothered to weigh myself, because the stomach is my main target.
So far, so good. |

No squats or deadlifts though. Think I will slowly start incorporating deadlifts back into the workout, and hopefully squats in the near future. |
Don't underestimate the power of bodyweight squats and deadlifts. Get the form right and graduate to Bulgarian bodyweight split squats, semi-pistols, and finally pistols and one leg bodyweight deadlifts. You can start anytime and you don't need weights. Of course, a couple of dumbbells in hand will up the ante considerably--but that's for later, much. Use bodyweight exercises between sets for conditioning and strength. |
