As a grad student about to head to Korea for a few years, e-readers are very appealing: I wouldn't have to lug books with me or have them shipped. Do kindle or similar e-readers work in Korea? Do any of them have Korean language support (so that I could read research materials in Korean on PDFs).

Thanks!

You probably don't want the Kindle... Most of the cool features are useless in Korea... And it is a pain to get books to it...

Since you said you need to PDF's, you probably want to go with a Sony... They have the best support for PDF's... Unfortunately, there is no native support for Korean script. That said... for most PDF's the font support is in the file, so this is usually not a problem... If it is you can always reformat the PDF.

As far as I know, you can't get the Sony E-reader in Korea.

this thread has been done before. the search feature on dave's is not very good though

I have the sony reader. I couldn't find it in Korea. I ordered it to my dad's house in Ontario. he took it out of the box, took the labels off, used it a couple of times, then shipped it via UPS to me here in korea (that way it was 'used' and I didn't have to pay customs)

one of my student's really liked it. He wanted one too but we of course couldn't get them shipped here. I got him to get the Foxit Eslick. A new ebook reader with a very good PDF reflow capability (better than the SONY)
