And in the second, I'm guessing you mean that, had Nixon not resigned, the pro-western forces would have won in Vietnam.

I am mentioned in this bizarre thread, so I shall respond.

I do not rate R. Nixon either among the best or the worst American presidents. Like everyone else, we can cite pros and cons. I do note that he resigned after exacerbating an already deeply-divided, polarized country.

In terms of foreign policy, Nixon was a master strategist, even in regards to much of what transpired in Vietnam after 1968. I am referring to the effort to Vietnamize the war in the South and the Paris peace talks. Of course, Kissinger helped matters along but Nixon had the good sense to appoint him in the first place. Melvin Laird, the Defense Secretary was underrated and had a good deal more common sense than McNamara.

As for domestic policy, many progressive programs were initiated under Nixon including environmental policy at a national level.

His doing in was Watergate, which was tragic because he didn't need the plumbers to win the election against McGovern.

Spiro Agnew was a poor choice as VP and antagonized the center and left in American politics. And while Nixon acquired a siege mentality, he could hardly be blamed for it given the relentless assault of the media on him (which began well before Watergate, I would point out).

One can draw more than a few analogies between Nixon and Agnew but the former was actually a much more moderate conservative with no illusions about winning in Vietnam, despite the legacy painted for him by the press.

And unlike JFK, he was a good and decent family man.
