Grim estimates of thousands of deaths have been made after the Government confirmed 29 people in the UK have already died after contracting swine flu.

Chief Medical Officer for England, Sir Liam Donaldson, said figures being used by the NHS to plan its services show that a 30% infection rate among the population could possibly lead to 65,000 deaths.

I can't fathom why Britain of all places is so badly messed up with this bug.

It also appears to be a fair bit more dangerous than many people think.

Because there are far too many immigrants here for a small island to cope with.

I heard 98.7% of people who earn their living from the government are liars. That's just what I heard.

These people just pull numbers out of their arse. I heard a guy on the radio the other day talking about "billions" being displaced from a 1.5% increase in global temps. Which would still be under a 300,000 year historical norm. Clowns.

This is special interest nonsense. You can't believe 1 quadrillion percent of what you read/hear from organizations sucking on the government tit. They lie like rugs.

WTF, shut up.

This was a worst-case scenario. Usually in the UK 10-15,000 people die from flu in a 'season'. Most people who die will be the elderly.

Her/his opinion is solidly in the mainstream:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1184611/70-Britons-want-big-cuts-rate-immigration.html

Quote:
It found that 79 per cent of people were concerned or very concerned about immigration. Seventy per cent of the 2,072 respondents favoured cutting levels by 80 per cent or more.

Of those, 17 per cent said net immigration should be brought below 50,000 a year - a level last seen in the early 1990s.

Another 39 per cent favoured a policy of zero net immigration, with the numbers settling in the UK matching the numbers emigrating. Sixteen per cent said the number of immigrants should be lower than those leaving.

Just over half of more affluent voters - ABC1s - wanted either zero or negative net immigration, while 63 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds favoured a figure below 50,000.

No no no, Karea was saying swine flu was affecting Britain disproportionately because of immigrants. Totally stupid, totally false.

In other words this is just a normal and unremarkable round of flu that has been media-hyped .

....because scientists believe it uniquely has the potential to mutate into a much more dangerous form.

Swine Flu doesn't seem to be hitting us too badly here in the states, and, believe me, we've a steady stream of folks crossing the Rio every day.

Some right wingers (maybe Savage) implied that swine flu was brought across the border by illegal immigrants. Fact was, it originated on a Mexican/US farm and (I think) Catholic choir boys brought it back with them on a flight! Any excuse...

Some popular names for this paper round here are The Daily Hatred and The Daily Racist.

Re: Swine Flu - The British government and media have yet again conspired to whip up another delirious round of paranoia and the British public take it to their hearts. What a surprise. How can it be worse here than elsewhere? But off everyone goes with their apocolypse-at-the-water-fountain. Im sick of hearing about the bastard.

One funny thing though, some of my Muslim students thought they were immune to it cos they didnt eat pork! Priceless.
