i saw a young korean kid in busan dash up and kick a pigeon that miscalculated the little tyke's burst of speed and got hit, falling and hopping sidewards, obviously a bit hurt, before flying jaggedly off

point #1: what did his korean dad do? he laughed!

point #2: what did onlookers' do? nothing

what did I do? Evil or Very Mad scowl and said "hey!" getting their attention, to at least let them know one person gave a *beep* what had happened

what are koreans teaching their children in terms of treatment of animals? and what's up with the korean way of ignoring public displays of abuse? bah

Give that bear a few more years and it will eat those cats... Saw that on that Discovery channel show Animal face Off, where they pit animals against each other, taking into account their strengths and weaknesses.

Developed country? LOL

All right you speak of Koreans not being developed, but you stated above that Koreans (i.e. all of them) shouldn't be allowed to keep animals, so you are telling the posters that racism is the hallmark of being developed?

By the way, racism violates the TOS; it's not developed or professional, either. I don't mean to sound sarcastic. Kindly follow the TOS.

I think you're looking for it. Koreans shouldn't be allowed, Americans shouldn't be allowed, or Humans shouldn't be allowed to keep any animals until they learn how to look after them. Could be interpreted either way.

Also, I'd double check your logic on deducing from "racism is the hallmark of being developed" from the original quote. Just ain't there bro, you're fishing.

On topic, why did this have to become a debate about Korea? It happens everywhere. The point here is this was on a comedy/entertainment show. Kids watch this. Not a very good message to send to kids, that putting animals in stressful/uncomfortable situations produces humorous consequences.

You have a point, but I think it's quite apparent what can be deduced from CJ's comment he was saying it in the context that Korea is not a developed country and that Korean's shouldn't be allowed to have animals. Technically using the term "developed" country and scoffing at it, it was a pretty blatant punch at Korea/Koreans.

Anyways, I don't agree with unnecessary animal cruelty. But frankly the amount of attention this gets would be more than I would ever care. I don't think it's right, but at the same time, it's not a travesty, or an injustice or even as important as scab on my left arm.

Are we really worried about the phsychological well being of a caged animal doomed to a life of captivity? There are enough human crazies out there that this should be near bottom of our "to care about" list. If the bear was being cut up and tortured for no reason, than sure that's an issue I can get behind.

But a bear looking at kitties isn't exactly going to warrant an injustice or extreme cruelty in my book.

I would have laughed too. I am not Korean, but I have a sense of humor. I also laughed when birds crapped on my car for 3 months - every single day. I also laughed when I got crapped on two days in a row from said birds.

So a kid kicks a bird...he's a kid. The chances of something like that happening is RARE, so find the humor in it.

Some people on this board, and out there in Western society give WAY TOO MANY rights to animals. I won't go out of my way to hit an animal or cause it harm, but I also don't believe they should have as many rights as they do. This is Korea. Animals don't have the same rights. Get used to it. Way worse happens in other countries. I can see in another country:

Kid runs up and kicks bird. Bird goes flying onto ground. Kid runs up, picks up bird, snaps its neck, family gets to eat meat for dinner.

the problem isn't the animals plight, the problem with zoos, or the treatment of animals by a few bad individuals.

the problem is a national television network having a show where animal suffering is considered funny.
you would never see a respectable channel like NGC or Discover putting laugh tracks and jokes over animals in stress, and encouraging viewers to laugh at the situation. its the lack of seriousness that teaches Koreans a deep irresponsibility about how to react to animals...

I agree it's not right,

But how many Koreans have a bear?

I mean, if we're going to extend human cruelty to animals, couldn't we consider dolphin training as slavery? Making them do tricks and flips for food?

Animal cruelty is everywhere. What about the meat we eat in America? Ever seen the Kentucky Fried Chicken or some cattle videos? It's horrible. Korea is just as politically correct about it as we are. We donlt do it with animals in zoos and stuff because of PR reasons, but it's okay to do to it to any animals deemed okay for food. Anyone who wants to complain about animal cruelty should seriously consider becoming a vegetarian.

There was the orangutan at Sydney's Tooronga Zoo who died of lung cancer - smoked like a chimney. I remember well as a boy my father lighting and passing the ape a Benson and Hedges.

The difference is that western media doesn't broadcast the mistreatment of animals as something 'cute'.
There are groups in the west who oppose slaughterhouse practices and do good work in ending the cruelty you speak of.
