It seems like most posters, despite the naysayers, have good sense and are very good posters, know how to follow the rules. Most people you can actually have a conversation without swearing like a sailor, and that they don't have to throw a hissy fit because they can't post the way one would converse if someone were drinking beer at the 3 Alley Pub, Seoul Pub, Irish Dreams, or whatever bar tickles your fancy.
We understand a minority of posters feel they are being censored. They are right that the TOS does entail censorship just as FCC rules for TV programming. We don't necessarily feel fantastic about making a minority feel censored, but we have the TOS, and as moderators, we are expected to enforce them, and, let's face it, Dave's reputation is affected by how people are expected to conduct themselves.
Perhaps, part of the reason some see negativity connected to the forums (though some see great things, too) is because of the minority who complain about the TOS. Certainly, we're not personally against those who violate the TOS. Some of them might even be personal friends. We just have to enforce the TOS, and we ask you to follow.
Anyway, be considerate. The more people violate the TOS, the more they spoil things for people who consider themselves to be professionals, care about their reputation as expatriates, and they realize that moderators also have jobs and in some cases families.
The vast majority of threads and posters are superb. |
