You can buy basil at The Foreign Market in Itaewon, yes that's its name. It can also be found at Hannam Market and Haddon Market.
E-Mart does sell coriander and basil too but they might put out only 3 or so packs a day so if you find some consider yourself very lucky! E-Mart is hit or miss but at the others places it's more like 99.9% guaranteed to be in stock.
There are also some stores online that sell various herbs (in Korea).
And if anyone wants, pm me, I'll take you around personally ^^
Also once I get my basil and coriander growing (if my thumb is green enough) you're welcomed to come over and take some.

For those from the Rest Of The World, this is Coriander. From the Wiki: Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), also commonly called cilantro, is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae. Coriander is native to southwestern Asia west to north Africa.
All parts of the plant are edible, but the fresh leaves and the dried seeds are the most commonly used in cooking. Coriander is commonly used in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean,Indian, South Asian, Latin American, Chinese, African and Southeast Asian cuisine.
The leaves are variously referred to as coriander leaves, cilantro (in the United States, from the Spanish name for the plant), dhania (in the Indian subcontinent, and increasingly in Britain), Chinese parsley or Mexican parsley. The leaves have a very different taste from the seeds, similar to parsley but "juicier" and with citrus-like overtones.

And all this time I thought it's just another word for weed! Thanks for helping some of us from the Rest of the World out here!

Hi Hapki, are those herbs still available? I'm mad for cooking with fresh herbs, and I live in Nowon. I'd actually love a sampling of all three, not to be too greedy!

Eunhang Sageori would be best for me, but I could meet you by Nowon or Sanggye stations too. Nowon could entail fresh Krispy Kreme. Hmm...
Thanks!

While it isn't fresh, Costco has the Schwartz brand basil in 145g containers. I bought one last year and still have plenty left.

To everyone I've given to, hope you enjoy it and let me know your recipes. (Gamine, what was that Greek yogurt you were talking about?)

To everyone else, I'll get back to you when the monsoons pass and I can check the status of my garden.

You can buy fresh basil around Itaewon. The Foreign Market has it so does Haddon Market by Oksu Station. Sometimes even E-mart has it.

You know what I'm super interested I have a bunch of friends who will be stoked to hear that they can make authentic aji now. I will happily make the drive up there from Janghanpyeong when you're available. Also did you say free dill?

thanks again for the lovely herbs! Eating fresh pesto again tastes heavenly.

The name of the dip is tzatziki, and dill also is great in chicken or egg salad. The NY Times has a recipe for Dill Soup this week, too.

Happy cooking, and if you should need to borrow a blender for any of the recipes, you can hit me up!

Coriander is available at almost every grocer I've ever lived near by in my few years here in Korea. Koreans cook with it... I'm not sure what.. but I've been assured that they do.

In my neighborhood, the samgyeopsal restaurants serve cilantro to eat with the grilled pork. I've bought it off of them occasionaly.
It's funny because they grow it and they don't know how much to sell it for so usually if you just want a little, they'll just hook you up.
When I make my delicious grilled pineapple salsa I only require a small amount, so when I go to the samgyeopsal place, I pocket the first round of cilantro and take it home for that.

HapKi,

I live in Nowon and have been looking all over the area trying to find cilantro for my tex-mex dishes. I'd be more than happy to trade for it since it will save me a trip all the way down to itaewon to get it. I'm right at Hagye st. so please let me know how I can get a hold of you. Thanks!!

Spicy Disco- Sorry, I didn't see your message. Hagye Station is right on the way to my garden. I can meet you and we could head out together. It's only about a mile away. Then pick all you want. Let me know your schedule.

Thanks Hapki! I don't start work until 4 everyday, so anytime in the morning is good. Lemme know the next time you're heading out there so I can come along.

p.s. I would p.m. you, but I just joined and therefore don't have that option yet. My e-mail is [email protected] if you want to send me your information so we can get in touch.
