Hi. Is there anyone who is from the Chicago area (or from Illinois) and is going to Korea very soon?

I have an urgent matter at hand. I have Korean bank checks that are only usable in Korea. I'm about to leave the country again, but I'm not Korea-bound. Unfortunately I need US currency before I leave the country, so I need to exchange these for US currency. It's such a pressing matter that I'll be willing to trade at a pretty good discount. Furthermore, you won't be charged for the currency that you exchange with me, should you choose to do so.

I have about $1593 (checked with today's exchange rate) worth of checks that I'd be willing to trade for $1495 instead. Once again, you can use these in Korea, and you can exchange them for Korean cash while in Korea, too. If this is too high of an amount, a lower amount can be exchanged (and still discounted) as well.

Please contact me on here or via gmail: [email protected].

Thank you!

Why don't you exchange them into Korean won and then exchange them for US dollars?

Is this the Nigerian President, again? When I told you to stop sending me those e-mails, that didn't mean it was okay to post your request on my forums.

So, the plan is to wire you American currency from Korea, and then what? Have you truly thought this out einstein?

I tried to do that right when I arrived back in America.

I hope that this is a joke...otherwise, I have no idea what the eff you are talking about.

Chicago has a decent Korean population so I'm sure there's a Korean bank there you can go to and change into Korean cash and then into US dollars or however they can do it.
Or maybe you should see when the next flight leaves from O'Hare to Seoul and go to the airport and ask those people if they want to trade you.

Oh, I definitely asked about the Korean bank in Chicago. Apparently there used to be a Shinhan here, but there aren't any other Korean banks here. I tried all other places as well. The Korean bank checks are only to be used and exchanged internally (that is, inside Korea).

Yeah, it's a joke, but without trying to sound accusatory, your situation sounds a little sketchy and is almost exactly like those scam e-mails.

And it doesn't help that you just joined ESLCafe a couple days ago and these are the only postings you've made.

If this is all true, sucks for you, and I can empathize with your situation, but honestly, it does sound like a scam.

I'm sorry that you're too much of a halfwit to understand the situation and what I am trying to do.

Surely you're one who needs to abstain from trying to insult people.

I guess you are too much of a halfwit to understand that your OP sounds like a scam. Those checks can be counterfeited really easily. And why the heck would anyone bring them outside of Korea?

Well, true, I have steered clear of the site until I absolutely needed to use it.

I can understand your line of reasoning. I can even take and post pictures if that would help. I was hoping that the exact dollar amounts that I used would steer away from the idea of it being a scam.

Perhaps, but unlike the one whom I called a halfwit, you seem to have read and comprehended what I am saying.

Sure, you are entitled to think that I counterfeited the checks, even though I didn't. If you are not in Chicago or Illinois, I care more about the texture of the Queen's stool than what you think. Very Happy

Why would anyone bring them outside of Korea? I know others who have done the same thing, so it's not the dumbest thing to have done. For those of us who don't want a carry-on half-full of 10,000 won bills (FYI, I left before the new 50,000 won bills were first issued), taking out 100,000 won checks seemed to be the more favorable option.
