More blacks voted from him than are registered Democrats, by a massive number. Further, voting for a political party that has a similar political philosophy to your own isn't the same as "I'm gonna vote for the guy who is black cause I'm black". Though, most whites feel sorry for blacks. They'll give them a couple-three elections to vote on pigmentation before turning it into an issue. It's only reasonable. |

Do you even know who Henry Louis Gates, Jr. is? This is like Mark VanDoren or Barbara Tuchman getting arrested.
As far as I can tell race is not listed on your ballot, 96% of blacks view Obama as 'their man.' Most people wish him well, but they don't feel that he is their 'representative anymore than a white democrat, or a supportive McCain voter.
Do you actually like talk to black people or do you just spew statistics?
Remember that 'blacks' did not 'coalesce' around Obama until the start of the primary battle when obama looked like he might actually have a shot.
As I keep saying, if you just look at national politics you are looking at rubbish.
Try getting involved in local politics and issues and dealing with local people. Does your hometown have any African-American council members or school board members or business or community organization leaders? Go talk to them.
I personally don't care that much about Obama or McCain. National politics is a joke. Go worry what the local sanitation commisioner os school board is doing. You actually have control over that and it actually matters who is running it. |

What is up with "race" and "nation" in America? Has there been an election for the King of the "Blacks", of the "Latinos" and of the "Whites" already?

Does anyone around here even read the OPs? It is by a black author in leading publication of the black media called Black Agenda Report that reports on black issues.
I am sorry if you have a problem with black people talking about their own issues.

Black people in America are Americans. 
I have a problem with Americans stereotyping race. It really doesn't matter 'if they do it to themselves' they are Americans and there is a problem.
Just as if black Americans think its ok to say the n word, if they do that in other counrties, then they may have trouble...even if they 'do it to themselves' Do Americans really think there is a difference? Whether they are black or white, they are still viewed as Americans overseas. How is it in America? |

I absolutely agree that there is a problem.
American history is fully entwined with racism. The problem stems from the fact that America owes its position in the world today in large part due to the centuries-long exploitation of blacks upon whose backs the country was built.
While great progress has been made, as a group they still suffer from its effects, so many blacks continue to harbor resentment while many whites continue to feel guilty.
I do not see race disappearing from the American debate at any time in the foreseeable future. Sorry. |

Ummm, before they get to be called a representative there is a ceremonial thing called an election. It isn't good enough just to have yourself 'nominated' in an article.
So just which black community does the OP claim to be searching for a spokesperson for: the liberal black community, the conservative black community, the radical black community, possibly the not-particularly-political-black-community-too-busy-making-a-living-to-give-much-of-a-damn-about-politics?
