Hello,

A friend of mine is considering teaching some private classes and has asked me how much she should ask per hour. I don't do privates so I'm a little 'in the dark' on this one....

She is a certified teacher in her third contract in Korea. She has worked as a 'head-teacher' and has some Hogwan supervisory experience.

What is she worth? She was making 30 000 when she had less than a year experience and no BEd. So what is she worth now?

I'm looking for something specific. How much should be requested for the qualifications listed above?

If you did privates how much did you ask for and what qualifications do you/did you have? How much would you ask for if you were in my friend's position?

Cheers,

K

You'll need to say who she'll be teaching.. adults, children? The son of the local adjumma? A business man? Under what pretense was she offered the work?

Generally, qualifications don't mean shit when it comes to privates.

I have never taught privates. To repeat : I haven't taught privates.

A friend of mine who is now teaching in Thailand used to, though, when he was here, and he was getting 50K per hour for an individual, 60K for a small group of businessmen. He had years of experience, but not much in the qualifications department other than a correspondance-course TESL cert.

Unless she is an F-visa holder, she can not legally teach privates in Korea.
