|
|
I've been working at my hagwon for almost 2 months and in that time I've had the misfortune of developing a health problem (a pinched nerve in my neck).
I was shocked to learn today that my health insurance reimburses me 40% of my medical fees.
Is this seriously considered health insurance? To me, 40% is a discount, not medical insurance.
My contract states:
Quote: |
4.7. Medical Insurance
The Employee is to be covered by the medical insurance law. 50% of the insurance premium will be paid by monthly deduction from the Employees salary.
|
What is this "medical insurance law?"
My medical bills are not particularly high yet, but if my symptoms do not improve the doctor is recommending a costly MRI and it will only get more expensive after that.
I will find out more tomorrow at school, but any insight is appreciated.
Also, I'm hoping my problem is resolved, but it might be worth checking what coverage you receive at your school. |

Health Insurance here in Korea means you pay less NOT FREE. |

Was the cap lock necessary? I never asked for, nor expect free health care. |

An MRI for a pinched nerve? Get a second opinion. If the problem is in your cervical vertebrae, it would be *far* cheaper to fly home over vacation, get this done on your health insurance back home, and fly back when the procedure is done.
If the problem is *not* in the cervical vertebrae, then you've received an MRI for nothing.
GET A SECOND OPINION (unnecessary caps-lock) AND A THIRD. I could fly to Rochester, have an MRI done at the Mayo Clinic, and fly back for less than the cost of an MRI on my Korean health insurance. |

Yes, it is only a subsidy. Had an appendix burst a couple of years ago only 50% covered. Under the 50/50 health policy of the hagwon. It cost me 1.35 million won including 9 days hospital stay. Total nearly 3 million.
Happy with the deal. |

I have little desire to discuss my diagnosis here, but it is in fact a problem with my cervical vertebrae. |
