Deadbolt.
Lock change.
One of those chain-type things that keeps the door from opening past 4 inches.
I vote lock change. Have your girlfriend call a locksmith and get that [mod edit] lock changed right away. |

My landlords have continually barged in on my girlfriend and I under the auspices of watering their plants on the roof in our rooftop villa apartment. The only access to the roof is through our apartment and they claim that we rent only the inside so they are entitled to the rooftop.
After 6 months of this, I decided that I had had enough and completely demolished their garden, smashing planter boxes, uprooting pepper plants and reeking havoc on their excuse to violate our privacy. The next day, the adjussi landlord attempted to barge in and confront me, resulting in a two-way slew of threats and curses, me telling this 65 year old man "YA! NA GA!", him telling me to be quiet ("si cur da"..which I repeated back to him), etc.
So I acted a little childishly, but all previously tried diplomatic solutions had been to no avail.
End result: An hour of director-mediated talks and now I hardly see them anymore. They agreed to come in once a week, while we are at work, and they haven't replanted.
Any Korean I've talked to has said this "barging-in" situation was unheard of, but, now with this board's anecdotal evidence, I feel vindicated. Ugly, but vindicated. |

I would argue that if access is ONLY through your apartment, then that roof area is useable only by you. There is no legal basis for them to claim it's okay to barge in to your apartment.
Any person given an apartment by their school should immediately change the locks upon moving in. It's the first thing you do. Who knows how many others lived there before you and had copies of keys made? Who knows how many people at the school have access to a key?
Better to be safe than sorry. Move in and immediately change the locks. |

Trust me, barging in is anything but rare. In most of the apartments I've lived in, the landlords knock, wait half a second and then open your door. I've woken up at 8am on saturday with an old woman from the gas company reaching over my head to check the gas line. And if you're moving out of an apartment, expect visitors at all hours to check out your place with no warning ahead of time. |

| I want an apartment for privacy, tired of Dorms and resident advisors barging in on my beauty sleep, or annoying ass roommates blasting the most gangster music (even though they're the preppiest SOB's i've ever met). Give me privacy or give me death!!!! |

Are these ignorant landlords taking off their shoes? If so, I have one word: Legos
Buy a small box of Legos and leave them scattered on the floor. Have you ever stepped on a lego barefoot? It's quite painful, I tell you.
Actually, I kid. I kid. Post some sort of sign, I suppose. |

lol this is what I was talking about. You had to resort to childish behavior and screaming in order to get results. That's what these people understand.
One my aunts is a landlord near Kunkook Univ. Maybe I'll ask her if she walks in unannounced. |
