This is a guy talking about teaching in Korea, for people who haven't been here before.

I can say my school lacks a lot of the technological stuff.
We have chalk and a board....that's it.
I think the salary he quotes is a bit low, but he is talking about new teachers. |

It's typical for a big, city school. Rural elementary schools are more 'homely' and have smaller classes. My school kicks ass: we have Webster screens instead of chalk boards. Does anyone recognize the tune for the bell? My school uses Fur Elise by Beethoven flogged from an ice-ream van.

He better stick to public, he doesn't have what it takes to teach in a hagwon. |

I think the best advice is there is no good advice, or bad advice.
Read any post about this and the same info comes up for good and bad.
Korea is a crap shoot, public, private or other. Test your recruiter and do what you can to learn about the school, but in the end go with your gut. Also remember that you are half of the equation that makes a good or bad experience.
That being said, think about the basic factors of education. Public schools are prodded by the government that pays for them. Private is prodded by the parents that pay for them.
Pick the school where you think you can fit in, Bureaucracy or Capitalism.
Then remember that the privates can regiment your piss time, and some governments dont give a hoot what their schools do.
Its a crap shoot, the only factor you can rely on is you. Go with your gut and then do what you must to fit in. |
