Yeah, that blue thing with a bit of firm padding I was just lying on to do reverse curls, that's called a weight bench. It's not a special table for your phone, towel and key. Over there there's something called a TABLE. It's made specially for putting things like phones and keys on. Over there there's something called a SHELF. It's also specially made for holding things like phones and keys. Those things on the side of your shorts, they're called POCKETS. They're also made for holding things like phones and keys. Oh and back in that room over there there's something called a LOCKER. It's specially made for keeping things like phones safe. And that thing around your key, that's called a WRISTBAND. It's specially made so that you don't have to leave your key on the weight bench.
No, I'm not pointing at your phone because I want to see it or borrow it so I can call my GF and tell her how my workout's going. I want you to move it so that I can now do a second set on the WEIGHT bench. Just because you can't lift anything that would make using a weight bench worth while doesn't mean someone else might actually want to use it for its intended purpose. |

You can ask them to move it or simply move it yourself. You don't have to be polite in the western way because it would be lost on most Koreans. There are guys who use the benches to hang out at my gym and I just ask them to move or if I can use it if they're not. They are usually just oblivious to public manners. |

That could sum up pretty well any situation in Korea, couldn't it? |

When we are on the subject, I've been wondering about a special technique that is often used on the treadmill here. They often wear a sweater and a jacket on the treadmill even if its hot inside and then walk or jog at walking pace. I assume that the clothes make them sweat and is supposed to make them burn more calories? Anyone know if it's effective? I would guess that it's more like a losing weight strategy instead of cardiovascular workout.
EDIT: Just noticed another thread were it would be more appropriate (http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=157530) , but I'll keep it here anyway. |

It's effective if you need to lose weight quickly to change your weight class for wrestling or something. That's about it. |

Yeah, if you really want to lose calories you'd do better running outside during winter.
I also can't get the people who use jimjilbangs during the summer. Like, it's 30 and humid outside, isn't that good enough for you? Not sweating enough? |

True. It's all water weight. If you want to lose weight, look into Interval Training and work on your diet. |

Just take it off the bench and drop it on the floor, and do your set. I used to do this all the time. I would just take the stuff and move it, and if there is no good place to set it, it gos to the floor.
And nobody ever had the nerve to say anything about it. Probably cause they know it's their bad.
You all are too polite. Try acting like a goon once in a while. It's so fun. |

Burning calories and sweating are NOT the same thing, they are related as one causes the other, but the reverse is not true.
Burning calories leads to sweating, sweating does not lead to burning calories.
Most people aren't aware of this obvious fact. |

Koreans have only had all these modern gadgets for 50 years. They're still figuring out the correct way to use everything safely and properly. That goes for a whole range of stuff from elevators to cars. |

and not a very safe way to lose weight. Youre not even really losing weight cause its all water weight and you'll gain it all back when you drink water.
Also, running outside during winter doesnt burn anything unless youre maybe in summer wear. Most people bundle up with sweatshirts or whatever when running in the winter, and it gets pretty toasty... make no difference |
