I feel like im trying to hard if I wear anything more formal then a tshirt and pants. Especially in an elementary school. Other teachers seem to dress business casual.

During the cooler months, I go with a long sleeved collar shirt and very often a tie, but I usually wear jeans. My school's pretty casual, and I'm often more "dressed" than many of the other teachers.

It's summer now, though. T shirts all the way. I walk thirty minutes to and from school everyday. I'd be repulsive by the time I arrived if I were to wear a long sleeved shirt and tie. I generally go with nicer t shirts that don't have any kind of logo or anything on them, though. I don't think I could go that route and feel okay about it....

Do the "blonde North American women under 30" have a special dress code they must adhere to?

With my last teaching contract, it was mandatory to wear Iron Maiden shirts. Fortunately, before I signed, I had the recruiter make an agreement that I didn't have to wear anything past their Seventh Son CD - 'cause that's when they jumped the shark.

With my first gig at Oh Sung Sik, the teachers had to wear dress shirts and neckties. Do you know impractical it is to have a tie on when teaching little six-year olds?

With my second contract, I would usually wear blue jeans with one of those cliche' Old Navy ringer tee-shirts, or sometimes, I'd throw on a polo. In the winter, I'd usually wear a nice dress shirt or a sweater.

That sounds ideal to me! Is this frequent practice from what you've seen? Or is it usually just business casual?

No not really. Can't say I've ever had problems teaching six year olds when wearing a tie...could you expand on this?

I teach Grade 1 and 2 on Monday and wear jeans and a t-shirt. When I wore my suit the smaller children were less chatty, and there was less interaction. Maybe they were more intimidated? Not sure...I'm a teacher not a psychologist.

For the other Grades, I dress the same as I did back home when I was teaching...I wear a suit...with a tie in the cooler months, and with an open shirt (not Satuday Night Fever open...just the one button for me). I think that the children respect you more when you look like a teacher and not an older student.

Having said that...this is more true back home than in Korea...where...no matter what I wear...I am always seen as something of a novelty just because I have blue eyes and blonde hair. Rolling Eyes
