I did Yonsei many years ago but part of a BA course. I found Seoul Korean Language Academy, linked on previous page, just as good. The teachers come out of the same mill.
Typically disappointment came with Yonsei when a teacher there told me she had to prove proficiency with English to work at Yonsei's Korean language school
Alas, save your money and go for the cheaper option. |

I study at the Ganada Hogwon mentioned before.
It may or may not be the one that above poster disliked. It is a different location and different website, so probably different.

Would you recommend Ganada language school for level 1? I have heard about them before and heard they`re okay.
I thought about Sogang too but not sure whether it`s worth paying 1.4 million to do a level 1 course. That`s why I`m thinking of doing level 1 at Ganada and maybe try for level 2 at Sogang.
And do you know if Ganada`s course be considered as `full time` or part time? I have a friend who can get some sort of allowance from his company if he studies a full time course.

I'm not sure about Level 1 at Ganada. It seems like for level 1 it might be of some advantage to have some little bit of English in the class. Or at least classmates who speak English. At Ganada it will be you and a bunch of Japanese. It is great after level one to not have English in the class, but not sure how that would work the first month. It might result in the teacher doing a lot of drawing, acting, dancing to try to illustrate a new word that could be so easy to just say in English. The teachers can speak English, but need to avoid it so as not to alienate the Japanese. I was at SNU night program for level 1 myself. |

I was looking at YBM's program:
http://kli.ybmedu.com/hakwon/kli/int_academy_eng.asp
Has anyone tried it?
I went through Sogang Level 1 and couldn't be happier with the experience. It was really tough, though, working full-time and studying 3 hours/day...but worth the money. I just don't have that kind of time anymore. |

Did 3 classes at YBM - very poor. |

Thanks for that. Someone mentioned Ganada earlier. According to a Korean website (cafedaum or something), it's supposed to be pretty good. I think I may just go for Metro Korean Academy for now though. Haven't been able to find anything (good or bad) about them:

What didn't you like, bish? I'm currently attending the classes at their Yeoksam branch and I like it fine, but maybe it's because there's only one other guy in my level so I get a lot of individual attention from the teacher. |

YBM:
Hi, I found that my teacher seemed really lazy and unprofessional. She was sitting down for much of the time and using English. The materials are quite poor too.
I think the price is much cheaper at YBM and if I lived closer I might have continued but I couldn't be bothered to travel for a low standard of classes... |

I'm going to Metro Korean Academy now and I'm extremely pleased. It costs a bit more than YBM, but they will never cancel a class for low turn out. I've had classes run for me with no other students. Basically paying like 11,000 won/ hour for a private tutor when you work out the math. I might have to change academies now though, because I'm changing my work schedule and thier morning classes are M-F... I don't think I can handle that much studying right now.... if anyone has any suggestions... I need something with MWF morning classes for an lower intermediate level.... and something close to downtown. I live in Sindang and work at Wangsimni and have to be to work by 1pm. |

Seoul Korean Language Academy is pretty good; I studied there for 2 levels in the everyday morning class. Definitely will improve your reading and listening, but not so much time is devoted to speaking. >< |

I also took classes at YBM and thought they were pretty poor. The instructor often didn't have enough handouts/materials for all the students and had poor classroom management skills. On the plus side, the instructor certainly did expect the students to have studied/done homework.
It seemed like students weren't divided into levels very well. The students in the class had a very wide range of Korean language knowledge. Some (a just-married woman from the Philippines) were able to read and write with little difficulty, while others didn't know their hangul at all.
I didn't go back after the first month. |

when i first came to seoul i took classes at a hagwon.
its called 'best friends'
they have qualified teachers there. the classes are good. classes take place 4 times a week from 10am to 1pm.
google the hagwon, then youll find the prices too. i would go back, if i wasnt working.
oh yeah.. books werent included. but they would set you up with a language exchange partner for free, if you wanted to. also, they have some fun trips they schedule once every month, i think. |
