What I'm doing now is playing Super Bingo.

You have the kids make out a bingo card with 25 squares. Then you use numbers 1-150. Make it black out bingo. Give the winner a prize. The winner today got my Korean Herald newspaper.

Tomorrow, the winner gets a Snickers bar.

It kills a good hour.

An hour playing bingo? My kids would stone me.....

I've got the little darlings for 3 1/2 hours in a row. They're bored enough as it is. The only thing to prevent civil unrest is short, quick activities with loads of variety, and lots of them.

We did play bingo today, though. For ten minutes.

Take them outside to the school grounds for an hour... Make em run back and forth for 10 or 15 minutes, then tell them they have "free time"... Worked great at my camp today to kill an afternoon... Though we've got almost 60 kids between 3 NSETs so your experience may vary Razz

I've been doing an hour of bingo since Monday. So far no complaints.

Saturday is my last day before a month of well-deserved vacation.

Anything that gets them moving is golden. Today we did "dictation relay". Tomorrow it's science experiments.

Get a frisbee and/or football and amuse them for months. If the girls don't want to play they can occupy themselves learning the Thriller dance or whatever your least-hated boy band is.

I had two kids in my afternoon class. So we played a card game. The game is a lot like Scrabble. They can use the dictionary to look up words to spell. We turned on the youtube for some English music. Sometimes they sang along. They conversed in English. The one who knew the game even explained it in English to the other one. I was so proud of her for using English without my requesting her to. A great class and the students actually learned the definitions of the words they looked up for the game. It was a great way to end the week.

I've been giving them art projects every day.

http://www.kizclub.com/animalcrafts.htm

Kills a good 30 mins to an hour and it seems to hold their attention. I'm teaching elementary kids mind you. I don't think it would work as well for middle schoolers or high schoolers.

Came across this great memory game that is good for at least 2 rounds before the start getting bored. Split them into two teams and award one point for a matching pair. If a student correctly matches a pair they get another turn.

Try to keep it minimized as sometimes that ghastly Evony ad comes up which may raise a few eyebrows.

I took manga pages, blanked out the word bubbles and had them write in their own dialogue. Good for a few hours.

self-portrait projects:

you make one first of yourself and model it to them:

one 8x14 piece of paper
markers/crayons
glue
magazines/newspapers

on the front of the 8x14, tear out magazine/newspaper pictures, shapes, words etc., and paste them on to make the "faces"--you can get really creative with this...students get into it...

on the back you list feelings/personal information/likes and dislikes/family info (depending on level and time)...(I gave them 4 categories and it was just about right)

try to encourage them to represent the words on the back with pictures on the front, if they can...

they can work on these for 30 minutes or more each day, and on the last day they read off the information on the back while showing their "artwork"...

give a list of questions that the students can ask about the pictures to involve all of them in the presentations, ex. "What is that?" "What does that picture mean?" etc...

works good for small groups who are bored, i can't imagine doing it with hyper, large groups, but you never know...

but, definitely knocks down the time each day and occupies almost all of the final day of the week with the presentations...you can even bill it as a "presentation party"...yeahhhhh!!!! teacher sits and watches!!!!

This is a great thread... one game i like to do is the newspaper game. Divide them into groups of like 4-6, give them a korean newspaper and a sentence. The kids must find english letters in the korean newspaper, cut them out and glue them on a blank piece of paper. Keeps them entertained for about 40 mins - an hour.

Paper airplane contest is good too. Awards goto most bautiful (students must color their airplane) Furthest flight, most accurate, and craziest flight.

Any art project is golden as well.

I make them right and copy words over and over and over again.

It kills time and they aren't having fun.

When they don't have fun, I have fun.

I't s a win win situation the way I see it.
