I'm upgrading to a 5d and need to let go of my EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 because it won't work with the new camera. I'll let this reviewer give you the details:
the digital picture
You can also find a lot of other resources as it's a very popular lens. I've babied the lens as much as I could, and kept a filter on it that the store clerk placed on it when I bought it. I also have the hood for this camera. That said, there's a scuff on the focusing ring that you move to do manual focus. How it got there, I don't know, but the lens works fine, takes sharp pictures and hasn't let me down. I'm not the greatest photographer, but I'm learning slowly and need to create a video reel (hence the 5d purchase) for film school.
My Flickr Page
I will add pictures of the lens later tonight or early tomorrow (I'm at work atm).
The other lens, the 24-85mm, is the lens I bought with my 40d. I have rarely used it. After I bought this lens, I purchased an 85mm prime and the aforementioned 17-55mm. This lens has been stored away, and I would rather sell it and use the money for a walkaround L lens.
That said, here are the detailed details:
Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS with hood (sorry, I'm keeping the UV filter) with lens caps -- 800,000 won.
Picture of the front of the 17-55mm
Canon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 with Hoya filter -- 375,000 won.

the EF S 17-55 F 2.8 is an amazing lens. Probably the best lens for any Canon crop bodies. Do you have dust issues with this lens? How old is it? |

I've seen some dust within the lens, but it hasn't hurt my pictures at all. I've read about dust problems regarding this lens -- and Korea is one dusty place -- but this lens hasn't been particularly prone to it.
I've had this particular one for longer than a year. I bought it the week after Namdaemun Gate burned down -- some of my first pictures were of the people around the gate paying tribute to it.
I'm not sure how much a cleaning will cost, but it doesn't need one at the moment or even the foreseeable future.
Hope that answers your questions. |

In case anyone is worried about a few dust particles in their lenses (which is inevitable, especially in zoom lenses):

I'm extremely tempted by the 17-55, seeing as the going rate is around 950,000 and I'm using the cheap Tamron equivalent at the moment. I do have a few questions:
- Do you have the front and rear caps, box and manual?
- Are there any issues with the focus action or switches?
- Are there any scratches etc. on the front or rear elements?
- Is there any evidence of oil on the aperture blades?
- Is there any evidence of fungus?
Assuming that the answer to all of the above is "no" (except for the caps/box/manual!), I'll have to arrange to meet up and check/test the lens (both physically and with some shots). Where are you located? |

Hey Doc_ido --
I do have the front and rear caps, but I'm not sure where I placed the box and manual. I'm at work right now, so I won't know if I threw the box away until I do a complete search of my house.
There are no issues with anything -- everything works perfectly fine.
I will inspect the lens again tonight, but there should be NO scratches or ANYTHING on the front element seeing as how it's been under the protection of a UV filter since the day I bought it.
As for aperture blades and fungus -- I don't think this lens has any problems with those.
I'm located in Kangdong -- a stop away from where the pink and purple lines connect (Cheonho). I'm available Saturday and Sunday. I will PM you later after I inspect the lens and search for the box. |

Checked Danawa and GMarket before I posted that price. The price they have for the lens you mentioned is well below the price of other vendors -- and the price of their Canon 5D is lowest I've seen. I'll look more into it. |

Interesting. Danawa didn't give me that listing when I checked. I may have to rethink selling that lens.
The 17-55mm is still for sale. |

I just bought myself a used 5D yesterday. Its in dire need of professional cleaning but I am excited nonetheless. I think you won't regret the move.
Hopefully someone picks up that f2.8 zoom off of you. A fast zoom of that quality would really take most people's photography to the next level. |
