After reading your "reveiw" I wonder what your take is on the Iron Maiden video for "Run to the Hills."

Dude, it is a music video, calm down. Kids play cowboys and indians all the time back home.

Ad hominem tu quoque.

Are you capable of any method of debate other than this logical fallacy? Are you absolutely unable or unwilling to address issues that are raised?

Even though your flawed argument doesn't merit a response, I'll give it a fisking anyway.

Here is the video. OK, it's not the most culturally sensitive. However, both ethnic groups are ridiculed. One white guy gets an arrow in his butt, while another loses his toupee. And they did decide to change the video.

Quote:
"Run to the Hills" was released as a video in the early 1980s, which was later remade in the late 90s/early 2000s. The first video consisted of the band performing, interspersed with comical footage featuring Indians from the 1923 James Parrott film Uncovered Wagon. The later video removed all the old film footage and replaced it with Flash animation of Cyborg Eddie (from the Stranger in a Strange Land cover) in a sci-fi Wild West setting, animated by Camp Chaos.

Remember, that video was from the early 1980s. There's no excuse for that in the year 2009. No, not even in Hermit Kingdom Korea. And the lyrics to the song are much more sympathetic to Native Americans.

Quote:
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard, we fought him well
Out on the plains, we gave him hell
But many came, too much for Cree
Oh, will we ever be set free?

Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom, a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack

Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives

Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing's a game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Injuns are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old

Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives

Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives

Run to the hills
Run for your lives
Run to the hills
Run for your lives

Actually, I think that it is you who needs to calm down, since you obsessively defend Korea in every single instance, even when its actions are indefensible.

Really? Even in the year 2009?

Trash.

MC Mong is an idiot.

My previous school (girls high school) had a concert with him, and they made all of the girls line up from the halfway-point of the gymnasium because they wanted to simulate a stage rush for a video they were making. That was sheer stupidity, because when he came out and they had the girls rush to the stage, several were trampled. We had to dig them out of the crowd and carry them to another room off to the side. Several were sent to the hospital in ambulances.

That will forever be my memory of MC Mong.

The music is shyte.

But please spare us from all the

'Boo hoo, MC Mong is so un pc in that video stereotyping the Noble Native Americans who lived so perfectly and suffered a holocaust etc.'

Yes they did suffer a holocaust, but come on stop crying coz some Korean dude makes a kitchzy pop video, I doubt the Native Americans are crying over it, they probably have other more pressing concerns in their daily lives so stop patronising them - cry babies.

Whoa there...don't bring Maiden into this! Iron Maiden doesn't belong in the same thread as MC Mong!!!

Also...please read (above) or actually listen to Run To The Hills Grumpy...it's not evil...it's just rock music.

Perhaps Miley Cyrus, who got sued by a Korean American for making a slanty eyed gesture a while back should sue MC Mong.
After all, Cyrus is part Cherokee.

Relax, it is a spoof!

Further, for me, Mc Mong is a breath of very fresh and fun air. A great talent that Korea should be proud of and as he matures there will be even better fun....

This is in the best tradition of satire, something some people just will never get. We boil up these stereotypes to overcome them.

Mong is stereotyping. Boiling up stereotypes to overcome them? In Korea? That's a good one. It's done here to make money via TV, newspapers and music.

It is comedy though, your right. Koreans will get a good laugh out of the native Americans that's for sure. I wouldn't go over well anywhere else however.

With many things such as this video comes a responsibility. One should know that even with good-natured intentions something like this could still be misunderstood, seen as racist and ignorant. Most people aren't gonna take the time to read up on why MC Mong did the video (presumably to sort of honor Native Americans because of an idea from a book/story he read). But what if it was some other foreigner perpetuating stereotypes he or she deems cute and harmless of Koreans or your race in a song? Imagine the uproar. Imagine the negative things often told or joked about concerning other nationalities, then put it in a song with costumes to match. It wouldn't be a pretty sight if it was your heritage put on display carelessly. And even though things like this aren't meant to harm, they still do.
