Recently president Obama visited Africa.

On his trip one time Obama compared S.Korea with his father's homeland Kenya.
He said Kenya was doing better economically than S.Korea when his father went US in 60's. Now, S.Korea is 32th richest country while Kenya stay as one of the poorest countries in world.

What made korea become one of the fastest growing wealthy countries ? I say it's combination of visionary of great leadership someone like a former president Pak Jung-Hee and very competitive education system and nature of hard working Korean.

Years ago some korean have wondered if " SamSung " can take over " Sonny " in world market, well, many doubted, but today SamSung completely took over Sonny in world market.
Also name recognition of SamSunig is much much higher than Sonny.

Now some Korean wonder if Hyundai oneday can take over Toyoda in world market.
I say it is going to happen within next 10 years.
Last year total sale of Hyundai cars was 20 % of total sale of Toyoda, this year Hyundai already sold 30% of total sale of Toyoda.

Well, Hyundai may need a few more years to take over Toyoda, but it's already happening with Nissan, Hyundai already sold more than Nisssan this year.

Hyundai built $$ 1.2 billion plant in Mongomary, Alabama and now Kia is building $$ 1.2 billion plant in West Point, Georgia.

Korean should not satisfy until Korea become one of top 10 richest countries in the world.

I think Korea right now has a right leadership ( Lee Myung-Bak ) in tough economy situation.

You've got your thinking a little bit upside down: The reason Korea was able to become the 32nd richest country in the world in 2009 is that Korea isn't located in Africa.

Pretty amazing that it took 5,000 years to become #32. Oh, and lets not forget the $10,000,000,000 gift from the USA to SK in the seventies. Oh, and lets not forget Japan giving SK the technology to start their own automotive industry.

Yep, Korea is #32! Dae Han Minguk!!!

Koreans deserve to be extremely proud of their economic advancement of the last 50 years.. No people has worked harder for the advancement of the motherland tyhan Koreans.
However they shouldnt forget that without the aid and continued protection of the USA this "miracle" would have been impossible no matter how hard they have worked.

Korea has done well, but comparing it to Kenya isn't fair. Korea has had a lot of help over the years-- as somebody already mentioned, Kenya, like the rest of Africa, has been completely ignored by the West...

Maybe the chaebol have made a lot of money, but the price that the average Korean uni graduate has to pay for living the standard life here is horrible.

Overpriced rat hole apartments, overpriced everything. It's amazing what the average consumer has to pay to get anything decent in Korea.

Because communism never looked like spreading much through Africa.

You'll find the resources of the western powers, especially USA, since WWII, have been spent trying to stop the spread of a political ideology. Communism.

If you have communist neighbors, but your government stays capitalist, then you can get lots of yankee dallahs!!

The only part I agree with is that Samsung is a more recognized name than Sonny. I would never buy a Sonny.
