I'm a teacher going to Korea in September 2009 through BOP korea. I say to everyone who intends to come to korea, not to sign up with this agency. It is run by three people, Tim - a mysterious figure who goes by the name of monica, with no figure, voice, or phone number - and Hyejo who I have written countless emails about personal inquiries about comin to korea but have not sent one reply - and Soojung who goes by the name of Judy. Soojung was my recruiter, from Vancouver, B.C. who has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about the matters of the smoe - Visa application process, tax guide, the orientation date, and location, basically nothing! All the information from sending the 2nd round documents and making sure that I am on the right road, I have searched from the internet, and she has been of NO help at all.
They have their Vancouver office in Whiterock B.C. the address which they had failed to update in their website, bopkorea.com, from the address 3 years ago. I went to see the recruiter at their so called updated address and they moved out of there 3 years ago!
Their guy in Whiterock also has no clue about the Smoe matters, and asked me what it was! Soojung takes weeks to answers my emails, and never answers the phone calls, so I called up the Korean BOP korea number, and she lied saying that she answered my email, which I did not receive.
If this is how they treat an NSET, even before I go to korea, I wonder how wonderfully they'll treat me once I arrive there. Too bad I can't switch to other agency at this point.
Bottom line: BOP korea and Soojung is the most inexperienced, inadequate, incompetent agency and recruiter in the history of SMOE. Avoid them at all costs! |

More Korean Ramones fetishism. First the t-shirts, now the Blitzkrieg BOP. |

I'm applying from Canada, so I need a recruiter from an agency through which I can apply to SMOE. By the way, this is my 3rd week waiting for NOA. Does it usually take this long? |

Thanks for the advice! I'm getting my job through them as well but they're absolutely awful with replying to queries. They're as bad as the OP says they are and now I have further confirmation of how truely inept they are I think I'll pull out. I haven't signed the contract or sent the final round documents yet so I think I'll try find something else last minute. |

Why didn't you just get another recruiter as soon as you knew they weren't very good? Too late now. You reap what you sow. |

ESL Seoul has been pretty good with me so far in processing for SMOE.
They haven't answered every email I've sent, but they have been consistent in getting back to me or initiating contact when they had news I needed to act on.
(And I wouldn't have expected them to answer every email, because I've been sending one or two a week keeping them informed with where I am at in processing the paperwork.)
Of course, I'm still not through the process yet ---- but to date, they have been fine...

Yeah they are absolutely dreadful at replying to things. Not once did they answer my calls.
However, I did get a job in a public school which I am pretty happy with.
For me at least it was very frustrating getting out to Korea, but the minute you are here, it doesn't matter too much about the recruiter, it's all about the school......... |

Oh my gosh! Soojung is my recruiter too and I am having the same problems!! She has lied to me 3 times about the dates I will receive my NOA, and she is terrible about responding to e-mails. Let's just hope I get my NOA very soon!!! |

Is it normal for these guys (recruiters in general) to make up names?
As currently a male recruiter is sending me messages using a female email. |

I'm not sure, but I do think that recruiters use Anglo-sounding names to be more appealing to English teachers. Like at BOP Korea, the e-mails are Judy and Monica, even though there is nobody there by that name. |
