I have to go to the consulate in D.C. for my interview and to (hopefully) get my passport stamped with the E2. Has anyone been there recently for this process? I'm wondering how long it takes, what they ask you in the interview, and if there's anything else I should know before I go.
Thanks! |

EPIK (English Program in Korea) is funded by the Korean government and hires native English speakers from throughout the world to teach English at elementary, junior and high schools in all the different provinces of Korea except Gyeonggi-do. The reason I asked is because the visa process for successful EPIK applicants is different than those who are hired by hagwons. They aren't required to do the visa interview. I can speak personally for the DC Embassy cause I got my visa from there. I live about a 15-20min. walk from there. |

Oh great! Could you tell me a little about the process/interview? How long did it take? Is there anything I should know beforehand? |

Well. Since you aren't with EPIK I assume you're with a hagwon. To have an interview you need to call in for an appointment. They do the interviews on Tuesdays at 2:30pm. So just call the Embassy tomorrow to setup an appointment. They'll tell you all the documents you need to bring or you can ask if they forget to mention. Also make sure you have cash for the visa fee. It's $45 I turned in my documents on a Tuesday (thinking I need to have a interview and come to find out I didn't) and picked up my passport that Friday with my E-2 visa in it. So it was about 3-4 days. |

Cool, thanks. Do you know how long it takes after the Tuesday interview to get the actual physical visa in my passport? Like, a few hours or several days? |

If you have them mail the passport it will take 5-7 days but if you pick it up it will only take about 3-4 days before you can pick it up. |

I went to the K embassy in DC as well back in March.
The interview was with some hungover korean with spiked hair asking me if I've committed any crimes, then at the end he tells me not to 'lape' any kids...wow.
Wear a button up and slacks, get a shape up, shave, go there and just answer their questions. |

I went last year. It was pretty simple- they asked why I wanted to go and told me not to do anything inappropriate with kids. My interview was on Tuesday and I picked up my visa on Friday and left on Saturday.
Enjoy! |

Appointment time is 2:30, but do not expect to have your interview until 4pm, you will most likely be out by 5pm. There is free parking in the back. You will leave your passport at the embassy and you can pick it up on friday. Alternatively, you can bring a FedEx envelope with your address written on it and they will mail it out to you on friday. |
