Sadly, that was true for me once. Some people like having less immediate deductions.

Don't worry, just work until the end of the (day, week, month) and then we will pay you.

Oh, sorry we don't have the money now, we will pay you next week.

My favorite came from an idiot supervisor who "spent 15 years studying in England" and spoke at the same level as my third year students.

"Most of the students are complaining about your classes."

"What are the complaints? Which classes are complaining?"
"Oh, just complaints."
"Such as?"
"Well, there's an old Jewish saying. If you mistake one time, it's okay. But if you mistake again, you are foolish. Paul said this."
"Okay, I'll see if I can fix the problem."

The great part about all of this is that it came the day after I made him look like an idiot. He was yelling at me because I didn't know what I was teaching. I brought up the fact that he hadn't finished our sylabus, and I wasn't told what book I was teaching. He then yelled and said "I put the new syllabi in your class folders. I said "Okay, wait one second." I then walked downstairs and grabbed all of my class folders which had no syllabi in them. I showed them to him and he told me that it's okay, don't worry because it's a new session.

The other great part is that although I'm not a practicing Jew, I come from a Jewish family and know a hell of a lot more about Judaism than he does, and I almost burst out laughing when he tried to make up a Jewish parable for me.

Hmm, not really a great lie, but I found the whole situation amusing.

"Our new academic director, Ms. Bak, has an MA in English from Cornell University. We're very lucky to have her."

Trust me, she didn't. Her suggestion to a struggling teacher was that he should use pantomime more to explain vocabulary (to 19 year olds who were supposed to start university in America soon).

I suspect it was another ESL program for tourist-students. "I went to Harvard / I went to UCLA." These extension ESL programs are the perfect lie.
