I don't know if this has come up or not, so I thought I would mention it. Last week I submitted documents for teachers from the States. They gave us a local CRC. They were accepted, no problem. This week, we submitted documents for another teacher, who happened to live in the same town, and had the same local CRC, however, it was denied, as Immigration is now requiring State or National CRCs.

I don't know how this will play out for Canadians, as I don't believe that you can aquire a provincial CRC.

Wow, this really blows. I read on another thread that my state (Arizona) doesn't even do state background checks. They will only do a fingerprint clearance for teachers who are going to teach within the state. Does this mean I have no choice other than to get the FBI check?

D-Jay. I did a local Tucson CBC and got it notarized at the station and then sent to be apostilled. I sent it to my recruiter and I didn't have any issues so I don't think you would.

Edit: I did my CBC in May...so if this new rule just came into play I don't know what the deal would be. I would talk to your recruiter.

It is possible to get 10 different answers from 10 different immigration officers. However, as I stated above, the immigration officer led me to believe that this was a new policy implemented last week.

as stated on numerous posts

as of 5/29/09 you need at least the state level for your CBC

you might get lucky with a local, but it's a very low occurance

I'm returning to Korea in September, and I'm going with an FBI CBC just to be safe. As I mentioned in the other thread, don't even bother with AZ DPS. They are morons.

I lived in San Francisco and I've simply done a California state wide CBC. You can get one back pretty fast if you find a Live Scan fingerprinting agency. Turn around was about 5 days. Submitted the fingerprint scan on a monday, got the All Clear letter on a thursday or friday. Notary, certification, apostle all take about an afternoon of shuffling back and forth across SF but it's worked both times without incident.

I need to get my Criminal Check notarized and apostilled. I live in the Chicago land area, was there anyone else who did this in Chicago, and could you tell me how you went about doing this?

SMOE also wants me to get my diploma apostilled but the Korean Consulate in the NBC building said they could do that for me no problem, so all I need is answers on how to get this done for my Criminal Background Check.

God, tell me about it. I just got off the phone with them. The lady laughed about how they "deal with this question every day". I can't believe how backwards and stupid this state is. It's such a basic service to provide to citizens. Now I have to wait until NEXT YEAR just to have it proven that I'm not a criminal. Sixteen weeks for a FBI check. Come on...
