Okay...

So, I came back from a vacation, and several things have happened -

At first, my computer would start up, and run for a bit, but then after 30-45 minutes, the power would just shut off.

A couple of times, a blue screen would appear, telling me about a software/hardware malfunction, and that I should uninstall whatever I had just installed (which didn't exist).

A couple of times, I would bump the case of my computer lightly, and it would restart.

Now, (and this kept happening throughout the other times), I turn on my computer, and the hard drive and fan go on, but my monitor acts like there's no incoming signal. I've replaced the cord, and tried a different monitor, but those weren't the problems.

Any ideas of what I can tell the computer guy to check for? Or is there anything that I can try myself?

Thanks..

Sounds like something might be loose.

What you can try yourself is to take off the case panel after you've unplugged the power cord and check all the connections. Try taking the RAM out and back in again. Basically, just check all the bits and pieces are firmly in where they should be and all wires are plugged in well.

open up the case, and check to make sure everything is plugged in tight, including video card, memory, hard drive, etc

I agree with the above posters.

Unplug the computer. Blow out all the dust using compressed air. Carefully unseat and reseat the memory (RAM)

Unhook all USB devices and see how it functions.

My wife's computer was doing funny things like that, and the keyboard had gone bad.
