THis is the sample "contract" that we were sent for a couples position. I do not even what to think or how to reply to this.

We both have MA degrees and BA educations. One of us has a TESOL certificate.

This job was passed on to us by someone we know who actually recommended the job, but the contract seems to need some serious help!

"1. You will have holidays according to Korean calendar. In addition , you will have 12 paid holidays according to my school? schedule.

?/p>

2. You will live in a furnished studio apartment. A bed, a refrigerator, a washing machine, a TV, an air conditioner will be supplied.

?/p>

3. As far as the airfare is concerned, you will be paid 1.5 million won.

?/p>

4.?ealth insurance and Pension / Yes.

?/p>

5. Severance will be paid on the completion of your one year contact.

When you work for my school, one of you will work for my school from Mon. to Fri.

You wll work from 2:30pm to 9:00pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 3:30pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

You wili be paid 2.1 millon won a month.

?/p>

The other teacher will work ?rom 3:00pm to 9:00pm three days?er week?Mon, Wed, and Fri) for my school.

In addition,?e or she?ill work at another school from 11:00am to?2:00am?n Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday?e or she?ill?ork from 10:00am?o 12:00am and from 1:00pm to 5:30pm .?This second school is mostly younger students (age 4-11).?Because of the additonal hours.?This teacher wil be paid 2.1 million won PLUS 500,000 won TAX FREE.

(Your basic teaching hours is up to 30 hours per week. When you calculate your teaching hours at two schools, it will be 35 hours.

You will see that you have 5 hours overtime a week, that is to say 20 hours overtime a month. The overtime is 25,000 won an hour.)?/p> "

The contract is poorly written, even for a Korean contract. None of what it says is awful, except that the teaching hours are over the top and the airfare reimbursement, for two people, is ridiculous. You can do better.

Here's the deal with the hours...most contracts ask for 30 teaching hours. Usually this does NOT include time between classes. Thirty hours is 1800 teaching minutes per week. If classes are 45 minutes, with 15 minutes between, this could mean 1800 divided by 45 = 40 classes...plus time between classes you could be talking about 50 hours. At 35 hours, plus 5 hours overtime, it could be a killer schedule...you can't tell from the contract.

Also, you can't teach at two schools without the permission, in writing, from immigration. Most schools will try and say it's OK without immigrations permission, but if caught, it's YOU who will be fined and/or deported.

This is true but easily taken care of with Immi. The boss will accompany you with the proper paperwork and the second school will be added to the ARC making it legal.

Shocked Hmmm... that's not a contract. It seems to be a 'letter' explaining what will be in the contract.
