Now I understand that the criminal check is only valid for 6 months from date of issue, but what if you haven't left Korea? I've heard that if you haven't left here that it's valid no matter how long you've been in country. Is that only true if you're transferring schools without having to leave the country for a visa run? If so, why? Maybe that's a question that can't really be answered on here. LOGIC only tells us that it shouldn't matter, really. It shouldn't matter if you're transferring or have to go on a visa run.

I feel that when I talk to agents on the phone and in person that they'll state that the CRC is only valid for 6 months, but if you transfer schools, you don't need to get a new one. Whatever sense that makes. Are they reading into the whole thing incorrectly? Will one office say it's still valid if you haven't left while another will say the contrary?

I'm thinking that this regulation can be read in a way where the CRC is valid for 6 months from the date of issue for you to get a visa. After that, if you haven't left the country, it's still valid.

Any people here have direct experience with this? Have any of you had to go on a visa run and been allowed to use an over six-month-old CRC?

If you're staying here to start another contract like I am, then from what I was told, you don't have to worry about it. The directions they gave me was to get a letter of release from my boss, and transfer and extend my visa by the expiration date on my ARC. Should be a piece of cake. Smile

Ying, are you already looking for a new job?

I never really started a new job. I signed with these guys running an after-school program, but never officially started working for them. It's a long story, but I'll just say that we came to a mutual agreement to not go ahead with the contract. I had some beefs with them and some of their conditions. Immigration is aware of the whole deal and I've stayed in country on extensions. I just have to go for a visa run once I find someone to sign me on.

Anyway, you can transfer to another school (maybe after 9 months - that may depend on certain cases) and not have to submit the CRC. I'm basically on a cancelled visa or cancelled alien card, but it seems I have to order another criminal report because mine's over six months old.

When you think about it, it doesn't make sense. What's the difference?

The difference lies in extending the period of sojourn for an existing visa and getting a new visa - a new visa requires a new CRC, an extension does not.

You must stop thinking logically... and start thinking like Kimmi.
