Gotta say, Dickens never gets his due in threads about books.

Top ten funniest novels:

1. Don Quixote
2. Pickwick Papers
3. The Golden Ass
4. Decline and Fall
5. Dying Earth
6. Roughing It
7. Tristram Shandy
8. The Good Soldier Schweik
9. Satyricon
10. Bouvard and Pecuchet

Honourable mention to Wodehouse and Gogol and Chekhov and Milne, whose funniest work was in short stories.

The only movie I can think of that is actually better than the book, is Gone with the Wind. I think all the descriptive writing works better in a visual medium

That's an interesting list. There are quite a few good movies there, and actually quite a few that I've never heard of! I think my European, non-English speaking movie IQ is pretty low.

I'm surprised how many people listed Duck Soup. It is a great movie.

This is a tough task, as others have said. There's soo much goodness out there!

TV Shows (I'm including ones that are no longer airing):

- Monty Python's Flying Circus
- Battlestar Galactica (the modern show)
- Star Trek (in general)
- Seinfeld
- The Big Bang Theory (yes, I like it too)
- Top Gear
- Corner Gas
- Family Guy
- The Simpsons (back when it was good)
- Black Adder

Books (I'm going to cheat and list multiple books under one listing):

- Most of Terry Pratchett's work
- LOTR
- The Foundation series
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
- Dune
- Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series

I can't think of others that are favourites at the moment....

There are some good movies in that list. "Lost in America" is a great movie that I totally forgot about. I think Albert Brooks is a comic genius who needs to write more stuff.

I read "Post Office" by Bukowski and it was not as good as I expected, but still an interesting read. I might read some others of his in the future.

Kurt Vonnegut is awesome! Even his crappy books are better than most other books.

I tried to read "Naked Lunch" a few times, but I just can't get through it. I would still like to read "Junky," as I have heard it is not as nonsensical.

"Brave New World" was good, but I like 1984 better as a dystopian novel.

The other books you mentioned, I have never read. However, they have been added to my "books I want to read" list, since you seem to have similar taste to me in terms of books.

Yo MovieBuff, I know what you mean about Post Office. I like anything Bukowski, dry and otherwise. Women is classic. I have heard Ham ON Rye is better and my buddy who's opinion matters to me says Factotem is his best. Perfume is probably one of the most descriptive books I have ever read. It was made into a film in 2007 and they did a very good job adapting it considering I was under the assumption that it couldn't be done, but they left out one of my favorite parts of the book entirely basically. So that was disappointing. The book is incredible though. The reason I read it was because I read an article about Kurt Cobain that said Scentless Apprentice was based on the book. Great song on a great book. Irvine Welsh has a thick Scottish accent in his writing and for that reason, tough to follow sometimes. I would read Trainspotting first maybe to see if you like it. If I remember any more I will let you know... gotta jog the cobwebs loose to remember what I have read off hand. My collection has taken many hits on many a move and my memory apparently too.
