I am working with EPIK until August 31st 2009. I applied to a job back home that i really want but the application process is several stages and will take around 6 months to get through and of course there is no guarantee i will actually get the job at the end. My application has been accepted and the first stage will be in September.

So I was planning to remain in Korea working for a hagwon during the time it will take to start the job (likely Jan 2010). The recruiter I have been dealing with has told me that I wont need to do anything as long as i have a job to start on Sept 1st who will take over my current visa. This is all very good......but.....IF I were to take a job here in a hagwon I will need to return to London at least 2 (possibly 3) times to attend the interviews etc. I am fully aware it is not ethically/morally right to take a 12 month contract with the hope that you will not be able to complete it. I think what I am asking for is if it will be possible for me to actually get home for these interviews etc. I would be willing to literally fly there and fly back immeadiately after but with the time difference it will be at least 1 day of work that I miss.

Should I be honest with potential employers?
Should I just return home after my current contract ends?
Does anyone have experience of going home during their contract for interviews etc?

All advice is welcome.

I have not accepted any jobs here yet and I really am not setting out to mess people around which is why I am stalling here a bit.

Thanks folks

Why don't you ask the company if they are willing to do phone or skype interviews? Then if you make it down to the final interview you can fly in for that.

Any employer (public or private) is not going to be happy about you missing work to apply for another job. Can you bame them?

You must make a decision whether or not to be honest with an employer. I think that by asking us for advice, you are trying to assuage your concience 'before the fact' for doing something you know is wrong.

You want to 'have your cake and eat it too'... at the expense of a K-employer.
