less fatties than I had imagined. Oh sure, there are still way too many, but for some reason I had imagined nearly everyone to be obese by now.

Not quite.

especially pleasing was seeing that there were still non fat women around. Of course competition for those is fierce!!!!

I was one of those complaining about food prices skyrocketing in Korea in the past years during the supposed "economic crisis" with downward pressure on prices but my favorite Wendy's combo meal (no. 2 ) has gone from 5.40 USD in May 2008 to 7.38 today! NUTS!!!!

I live in a very large American city, so the most exhilarating thing was really coming back and seeing the glorious kaleidoscope of different faces, styles, and cultures all around me. This is really one of blue America's best attributes. (don't get me started on the red)

Too many gangbangers and thugs and thug wannabies around to be sure, but since I haven't been robbed/held up, shot yet.. it's not quite bothering me as much - but it might merely be a matter of time.

Have really enjoyed driving my car! haven't done that in such a long time!

getting back to the stultifying sameness of the Korean Borg collective and 100% pure Korean blood sure is going to be bo-ring!!!!

lastly, I've never had Asian fever, especially of the Korean variety, but with time I grew more accepting (goes back to the bill maher quote - men will take what they're given, like Twiggy)

now that I've seen some non fat American girls and especially the oh so smoking hot and sexy Latinas in South Florida, it's going to be a very long period of "suffering" again back in the FLAT female landscape of kimchiland, especially on the backside.

As an added bonus, I have yet to run across any hello Kitty items, men carrying their gf's purses, flowerboys and other assorted quasi or de facto fairies, or any stupid childish giggles and laughs coming from the mouths of female adults.

It'll be interesting to see how I'll adopt back to the Borg in late August.

"the Borg"... LOL.

Every summer I go back to Canada and suffer 'reverse culture shock' -
"What do you mean I can't smoke outside in your parking lot?"

I also think you might be onto something with this "koreans=the borg" stuff. Run with it, mate.

the whole over the top nuts collective nature of Korean society made me think of the Borg metaphor.

I find it amusing that you're considered a weirdo/outcast if you eat alone for e.g. Sometimes I definitely want to eat alone, especially lunch if I have something to do during that hour. etc. and get the eating over asap.

I won't get reverse culture shock, since I haven't adopted a single facet of Korean "culture" and have no intention of doing so though I happily play the game while in Korea when need be.

but I haven't found myself bowing to anyone here yet though in Korea I do it constantly.

It's actually kind of relieving - my neck feels better.

so reverse culture shock will never be an issue - there's nothing to reverse since I'm not a boozer and smoker and spitter who would like Korean cultural norms.

For all the Korean girl lovers, I have a challenge. Dance reggateon with a Latina (preferably one in native habitat outside of the US, like in Colombia where I am now) and then get back to me about how incredibly sexy K-gals are, ok?

please see following story:

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/art/2009/08/135_49441.html

Lee Pa-ni is an attractive woman with a seemingly nice bosom. However, at least in that picture, and pictures rarely lie. her bottom is flatter than mine.

and that's just wrong. Very very wrong.

p.s. I haven't eaten any kimchi in 2 weeks yet I remain seemingly healthy. Wonders will never cease.

Latina women are hot, but most of the ones in the US seem to really go for the wanna be thugs and black guys from my experience. They really did the whole bad boy image.

I am generailizing. but..
you're probably referring to Puerto Rican women. Since they tend to be Americanized, but remain lower class, socioeconomically, this happens and it is indeed an awful shame, because it perpetuates their staying in the low(er) class. It's also why you see many young boricuas that are to die for, turn into obese thugmoms by the time they're 20 if not 18.

One reason I prefer Latin America proper, rather than the Latinos contained within our borders is that you will find that among the middle classes and higher abroad, (even the lower classes many times) there is absolutely ZERO fascination and interest with/in thugdom and thug "culture", American style.

Yeah latinas are hot and sexy... but there is a big downside.

no intellectualism whatsoever. have you ever tried to have a conversation? they go for pure machismo and as someone said dig the thugs and douchebags.

also they put on considerable weight after child birth and +30.

at least korean and other east asian girls go for intelligence and nerdy attributes. and they look hot up to their 40s.

I guess since you are in S. Florida you are not experiencing all the downsides to America since you have a nice international mix... but venture west or north into the deep south and enjoy the 70% obesity weight (not exaggerating. that's actual the number).

Where I'm from (the northeast), many Latinas do tend to keep their figure, even after childbirth.
They tend to stay within their same socioeconomic class because that is where they grew up and from my experiences living in both an urban and suburban environment, many Hispanic women tend to feel more at home in the inner city and with men they can identify themselves with.
Also the concept of childrearing at an early age comes from they religious, cultural traditions that favor large families. Also, government subsidies tend to be more generous toward minorities- so the more children a woman has, the more benefits she gets from the government, including EBT, Section-8, Title-19 and in many cases SSI as well as welfare, all of which amounts to $3000 a month.

Direct welfare payments? I wasn't aware of that happening on an indefinite basis anymore outside of Jersey and Utah. SSI is for disability as I understand it.

But yeah, Section-8 can be a huge source of "income" if you're reducing the rent of a $1500 a month apartment down to $300.

Sounds like you're in Miami, the culture shock probably isnt too bad.

After my time in Asia I moved to Colorado, the land of cold, rude, hicks and tweaker-looking goons. Fat people, Colorado is full of them. Thank god I am out of that state.

the ones outside of S. Florida tend to be Mexican and that's not my type at all, though there are some hot ones, as there are hot ones in every country/racial mix. Mexicans do have issues with obesity, even within their own country, check the obesity stats.. Mexico is right up there. All that said, I find the Mexicans a very friendly people - unlike many US residing Puerto Ricans for e.g. many of whom have a chip on their shoulder, but once again, that's for the lower/thuglike classes.

the biggest problem with talking about Latinos stateside is that you are basically talking about the lowest portions of the socio-economic barrel from all of these countries. That's why they escaped/immigrated. It will take some many generations to move up in class. Some never do but at least in the US they have at least some chance, a chance that doesn't exist in their own countries.

if you don't believe me consider the success of South Florida Cubans. Who emigrated from Cuba in the 1960's as Fidel declared Cuba communist and appropriated private property? It wasn't their lowest classes but mostly their highest. It was a little difficult for that first generation but their children and grandchildren quickly thrived. Education is prized and valued, thugdom sneered at.

When you go into these countries proper and deal with even say the middle class (which by US standards would still be considered "poor") you would find almost every single one of typical American Latino stereotypes debunked.

as I previously said. go into the countries proper and you will find smarts highly valued. thugdom sneered at (you will be considered maleducado, and malcriado) badly educated. badly raised - these are NOT compliments.

Latin culture is a little different from European/American, but that's like a difference between the moon and the Earth, instead of Korean Mars vs American Earth. The biggest issue is that at the heart of the culture is the knowledge of the language, which 99% of gringos either don't have or butcher endlessly.

there are also differences between Latins. My personal preferences run strongly toward the Colombian, Venezuelan, Brazilian variety. Others may feel differently.

alphakenny, that guy goes way over the top and in an insulting manner on that site, but change the language and I probably agree with a decent portion of the the things he says, though once again a lot of this stuff is gross generalization - but at the root of generaliation(s) lies a pebble of truth.

Yep, people have found a way to work around the system. And others have been able to get direct welfare payments in addition to SSI payments.
